TRAILS AND LAKES GROUP, SATURDAY, FEBRAURY 25, 9AM: The plan for this week is to continue working on the trail behind the 5100 that we and cleaned and marked so nicely last week. We will clear the county trail along the creek, and then turn towards the Collington dam. Hopefully we can join up with the trail leading from the bottom of the dam, previously in use and designated in the Collington handbook. We will meet behind the dog run but in case of rain, can we all meet in the Ivy Room at 9:30 so that we can describe our conversation with the Parks and Planning Commission. MET OPERA “Rusalka,” SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 25, BOWIE, MD: Will depart from Security at 12PM and return to Collington around 5:15PM. LINDA’S TREASURES, FRIDAY, MARCH 3, 11AM – GAME ROOM: Spring is in the air and Linda’s Treasures has just what you’ll like to bring in the season with fresh attire and accessories to make you shine! Come from 11AM-3PM to check it out! “TREEMONISHA,” SATURDAY, MARCH 4, ARLINGTON, VA: Will depart from Security at 12:30PM and will return to Collington around 4:15PM. This is a condensed version composed by the African-American composer Scott Joplin, most famous for his ragtime piano works. The plot centers on an 18-year-old woman, Treemonisha, who is taught to read by a white woman, and then leads her community against the influence of conjurers who prey on ignorance and superstition. Treemonisha is abducted and is about to be thrown into a wasps' nest when her friend Remus rescues her. The community realizes the value of education and the liability of their ignorance before choosing her as their teacher and leader. Duke Professor of Law and Political Science Emeritus Duke University and Senior Fellow, International Forum for Democratic Studies, National Endowment for Democracy, Washington, DC. His recent book on the subject was published by the Cambridge University Press. A MESSAGE FROM THE NOMINATING COMMITTEE: A reminder that March 5 is the deadline for nominations by petition for resident member of the Collington Board of Directors. To date, Marian Fuchs and Peter Pfund have been nominated by petition. The Nominating Committee previously identified Grant Bagley, Sara Case, and Jim Giese as candidates. Fellow Residents, Visitors and Staff. We want to thank all of you who have either donated or purchased items for the OO Glass Cases. However once again, we are now in desperate need for additional items... Please check to see if you have Jewelry- all types of earrings, bracelets and necklaces. *note: people aren't buying pins anymore!! We also need dishware, exotic pieces, music boxes, plate collections, dish sets and other small things to donate to the OO Glass Cases. Our inventory is low!!! The OO Glass Cases are located on the 2nd floor in the alcove by the Billiard /Pool room and by the Library. They are also on the 3rd floor of the Creighton Center in the hallway by the Beauty Parlor and the Residents Association Office.
