    June-July - 2011 Volume - 268 Founded - 1987

    The Opening Day Weekend/Pier 39

Cruise was led Alan & Kristen Spenceaboard Charisma. Other NVYC boats

were Starship, Lady Di, White Pelican,

    Elsinor and CKing Fun.

High winds were predicted for Friday, April29, so Lady Dileft home at 3:00 pm on Thurs-

day. Unusually rough seas in San Pablo Bayburied her bow a couple of times on the way to

China Point for the night. Friday was a nicecalm day for the rest of the fleet to cruise to SanFrancisco. Most of the group enjoyed the

Beach Blanket Babylon show on Friday Eve-

ning and returned to our boats to spend a verywindy and rolly-polly night with very littlesleep. However, wobbly docks didnt seem to

bother the sea lions on the outside piers.

Charlie Agnew Reports on Opening Day on San Francisco Bay

Saturday was a beautiful day in SanFrancisco topped off by a cocktail party

hosted by the Spences then dinner atAlioto #8 on Fishermans Wharf.

    Sundays cruise home was another

    smooth ride.

June marks the half waypoint of the boating year.June and July cruises:

June 10 to Martinez; July 4th

Weekend a cruise-in to ourclub; and July 29 the Commo-dores cruise to Jack LondonSquare - my personal favorite. There is a lot to do in Jack Lon-don Square, which includesshops, great restaurants, kayakrental, hourly ferries to SanFrancisco where you can enjoythe markets or even have dimsum at Yank Sing which is veryclose to the Ferry Building.

The Blue Water Cruise is stillin committee; so if there areany interested sailors, contacteither Bob Magoon or CharlieAgnew. Destinations underconsideration are Half MoonBay and Monterey. When theFall weather is great, there isnot a better place to be than outon the Pacific.Seeta and I have thoroughly

enjoyed this warm Spring/Summer weather so much thatas you read this we will be sail-ing in the Caribbean. We aregoing down on a research pro-ject to see if it is possible to geta tan anywhere in the NorthernHemisphere this year. Resultsat the end of June.

May started off withthe addition of win-dow seating with a

countertop made by SunsweetCabinets. Thanks to BobStemmer for helping with theinstallation.

Seis de Mayo was a big hit withcapacity crowd. Many enjoyedthe patio; music by TommyHill; planning and set-up byMisty and Lindsay; music ar-ranged by Steve Vartan. Thebar cranked out special mar-garitas and Chef Tyler pro-duced a meal with real Mexi-can flare. See page 5 for pho-tos.

We moved the May 29 brunchto 10am to 12 noon to accom-modate members who like tosleep later or have churchcommitments. The June 19brunch has been cancelled.
