Bay Cruise Log Captain Ken writes:

We nearly all arrived at Berkeley

Yacht Club on Friday following a

    smooth run from Napa. Friday

we joined the BYC for a lasagna dinner andgames night. Saturday cocktails were served

aboard Grand Cru where we were joined by

guests Maj and Anette Yazidi visiting

Elsinor. Saturday and Sunday many watched

the Blue Angels from the point. Monday we

cruised to San Leandro Marina, the Magoons

old home port. We have never seen the

South Bay water smoother. Monday we cele-

brated Alan Spences 50th birthday. Bob &Nancy weeks arrived to spend the night on

Elsinor and on Wednesday we celebrated

Else Madsens birthday aboard CKing Fun

with Karens hearty soup. Norm managed to

    produce two birthday cakes!

Bob & Joyce Craven joined the cruise by

ferry boat at Pier 39 (Omega was in sick

bay) and stayed on CKing Fun. Joy Magoon

noted that the number of sea lions at Pier 39was down. Everyone had a smooth run back to

Napa. Lets do this again next year.

Birthdays on the dock at San

    Leandro Marina.

Guests Maj & Anette Yazidi on the

Berkeley YC dock.Alan Spence really enjoyed

    his birthday party!

It wouldnt be the same club with-

    out Roxanne Brown or...

What a fast and great year this hasbeen. I have truly enjoyed my yearas Commodore of the Napa Valley

Yacht Club. We accomplished almost all of ourgoals and had an awful lot of fun along the way.

We brought in the New Year at South Beachwith nine cruisers and enjoyed South BeachYCs hospitality and San Francisco fireworks.

Our Super Bowl party and Chili Cook Off inFebruary was enjoyed by a full house. We havetwo brand new large screen TVs to enjoy thegame. The Parkers racked $300 in the footballpool. Also in February, all of our boats passed

    Coast Guard inspection.

We greened up not only our own club but alsoLoch Lomond YC in March. Our Officers andFlags stepped up and cooked corn beef andcabbage. Our lease with the city was also fi-nally approved in March.

Opening Day on the Bay was spent at TreasureIsland. Charlie Agnew arranged a wine tastingand Treasure Island YC hosted us a fun dinner.

KABOOM!!!! We cru ised to Alameda in May forthe fireworks. May was also the month for theMemorial Day cruise-in by Berkeley Yacht Club. What a weekend! Karens games on Saturdayand a special Weeks BBQ and silent auction tobenefit the Senior Project left us exhausted bu thappy.

Fathers Day in June found the CommodoresCruise to Petaluma with nine cruisers. Land Cruis-ers brought the total to 42 members who touredKellers Winery and antique car coll ection. I pickedout my Christmas gift.

Julys Fourth of July Family Weekend started witha Patriotic Pet costume pet contest. Of course, allwere winners. We also had a cruise-in and a patri-otic hot dog and hamburger dinner on Sundayalong with silent auction baskets benefitting theSenior Project.

The Delta Cruise was special this year as it was ledby my good friend and roomy Cruise Captain BobWeeks. Sixteen cruisers started our from Benicia.

After some mishaps and perhaps some shenani-gans, only one boat went aground, one boat brokedown, two cruisers fell in the water, one ambu-lance call and one Sheriffs deputys warning toslow down. This was also the month that westarted what might become a tradition - SundayBrunch at the club. Thanks, Steve Vartan; so farthey have been well received and attended.

The annual Bocce Ball Challenge and SeptembersLabor Day Weekend cruise-in by Benicia YC was ahuge success as the trophy was returned where itbelongs - NVYC! THE PARTY OF THE YEAR, the

pig roast at the Weeks, was a huge success - terri-fic food and ambiance.

During Octobers Fleet Week, we went from Berke-ley to San Leandro to Pier 39. And the best is yetto come. See you at the Halloween Party, theChange of Watch and the Lighted Boat Parade.

All of this was accomplished by YOU, the NVYCVolunteers. Over and above all of our activities, weas a group put on a weekly dinner, operated a bar, remodeled the galley and restrooms, added a new

deck, raised record monies for the Senior Project, conducted Safety classes and spent time socializ-ing with friends. Bring a new friend and show offthe NVYC. YOU can be proud of it .

    Thanks for one great year!
