TRANSCRIPT
Spring is in full bloom and it is wonderful to walk
through the neighbourhood and through the forest
and see nature waking up, I can almost forget that
we are in a Pandemic!
Thank you to the members who have joined us for
our monthly Zoom meetings, a lot of work goes into
preparing for the meeting and the Management
Team thanks you for taking the time to attend. If you
have not attended a meeting yet consider joining us
this coming Thursday May 13th, watch your email for
the meeting invite to register.
Jim Theobalds has arranged for a great speaker,
Dean Hollin, – see the information in this newsletter
– and Janis Miller has arranged a remarkably
interesting Member Profile you don’t want to miss!
Along with our Chat Rooms it will be an entertaining
meeting!
On behalf of Probus Mountainview I would like to
send out Congratulations to one of our members.
Bob MacNair. On May 6th Bob was appointed as
President of Probus Canada! Congratulations Bob!
We are still in need of a Member at Large for the
2021-22 Management team, if you have an interest
in joining the team, please contact either myself or
Paul Douglas. It is a great opportunity to be more
involved in your club.

May 2021 President’s Message
Biography
Dean Hollin has had only a couple of intense love affairs in his just over half-a-century on this planet. First and foremost is with his wife of nearing twenty-five years – Gayle – with whom he’s co-created four pretty incredible children. The other began a few years before meeting her – when in his mid-twenties, he became acquainted with the music of Cole Porter. That encounter became the beginning of an entirely insatiable appetite for what is known as the Great American Songbook. Irving Berlin, George and Ira Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Richard Rodgers, Lorenz Hart, Oscar Hammerstein, Johnny Mercer are others included in this impressive list of songwriters and lyricists born in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and whose talent for words and music changed the music scene – globally – in a tremendous way. Weekly, Dean’s radio broadcast “Radio Limelite – All Things Great American Songbook” celebrates, enjoys and shares the music and stories of this vast body of work. With his “G.A.S. 101” presentation he takes audiences on an entertaining and informative introductory tour of some of the best in 20th century song!

Due to the third lockdown, we have decided to postpone the June Scavenger Hunt, but look forward to rescheduling it as our first large event hopefully in September. Please stay safe & healthy.
