Fr. Joe’s Journal El Diario del Padre Joe We pray for the family of Peggy Haas and give thanks for her life. This past week she died after a long struggle with illness and yet unexpected-ly at the time. Peggy served our parish in many ways. She was a sacristan and served beautifully as a bereavement minister. She served for a little while as our parish chef. She brought her amazing culinary gifts to the service of our priests. I really enjoyed her cooking,. I know many of us will miss Peggy espe-cially her wonderful husband Al. I join with all who knew Peggy in offering my prayers for her whole family. May God welcome her to the heavenly ban-quet where she might contribute a dish. The same afternoon that Peggy Haas died the mother in law (Anne Davidson) of Sue Berg’s daughter Christine also died. I had the opportunity of anointing her some weeks ago and she recovered enough to be able to attend the Gleno-la Club luncheon where Sue Berg was honored. She enjoyed the luncheon very much. I pray for all of Anne’s family that our Lord may comfort them. I thank all who supported the Catholic Charities collection last week. The special collection supported the great work of Catholic Charities. They help our parish in many ways. We welcomed NCA, our parish school, for their annual ribbon ceremony. This week we welcomed NCA for an enjoyable and beautiful cere-mony . A number of our families have children that attend NCA. I thank them for continued participation in NCA. We sponsor and support the school I had a wonderful visit with my sister. I re-turned earlier this week from visiting her. My sister moved to Grapevine, Texas after the death of her husband (my Brother-in-law). I had a wonderful time visiting her and my niece and nephews and my neph-ew’s wife. I ask you to pray for my sister and for her continued health. She is a long time cancer survivor. There are a number of our parishioners who are in need of prayer. I ask you to pray for them and their families. Please pray for a friend of mine. This past week I found out that a good friend of mine has re-sumed cancer treatment. Pray for him and his family. We welcome back Deacon and Mrs. Ros-sow. The Rossows make great contributions to the parish. We are happy to have them back. See this bulletin for other important arti-cles and event announcements.

Rezamos por la familia de Peggy Haas y damos gracias por su vida. Esta semana que pasó falleció luego de una larga enfermedad y aun así inesperadamente. Peggy sirvió en nuestra parroquia de muchas maneras. Fue sacristana y sirvió en el ministe-rio de la perdida hermosamente. Fue por un corto tiem-po cocinera en nuestra parroquia. Compartió sus increí-bles dones como cocinera con nuestros sacerdotes. Se que muchos extrañaran a Peggy, especialmente su ma-ravilloso marido Al. Junto con todos los que conocie-ron a Peggy, rezo por toda su familia. Que Dios la reci-ba en el banquete celestial don ella traerá un plato. La misma tarde que Peggy Haas falleció, la suegra (Anne Davidson) de Christine, la hija de Sue Berg también falleció. Tuve la oportunidad de administrar los sacramentos hace varias semanas y se recuperó lo suficiente para poder partici-par el almuerzo del Glenola Club en honor a Sue Berg. Disfrutó mucho del evento. Rezo por la familia de An-ne que nuestro Señor los consuele. Agradezco a todos los que apoyaron la co-lecta de Caridades Católicas la semana pa-sada. Tuve una maravillosa visita con mi herma-na. Volví esta semana de visitar a mi hermana. Ella se mudo a Grapevine, Texas luego de la muerte de su es-poso (mi cuñado). Tuve un maravilloso tiempo visitan-do a mis sobrinos y a ella. Les pido que recen por mi hermana y su salud. Ella es una sobrevienta de cáncer. Hay varios miembros de la parroquia que necesitan nuestras oraciones. Les pido que re-cen por ellos y sus familias. Por favor recen por un amigo mío. Esta se-mana pasada me enteré que un muy buen amigo mío ha vuelto a tener cáncer. Recen por él y su familia. Damos la bienvenida nuevamente al Dia-cono Rossow y su señora. This week’s second collection will be for Ig-natian Services. The funds we receive will go to providing food for our neighbors in need. We will purchase yogurt from Aldi’s and basic items from the Greater Chicago Food Depository. While our numbers have been steady for the first quarter of the year we usually see a spike during the summer when the schools are closed. If you are able to donate be assured that we will use your funds wisely. If you are unable to donate please keep our clients and vol-unteers in your prayers. Thank you. Re-Cap of Repack Night! Last week 15 friends of the food pantry vol-unteered at the Greater Chicago Food Depository. We were assigned the task of preparing sweet pota-toes for distribution to food pantries and soup kitch-ens across Cook County. Some prepared mesh bags to hold the sweet potatoes, some checked the sweet potatoes for freshness and others prepared boxes to hold 40 pounds of sweet potatoes. We worked hard and had fun in the process! Thank you to our friends: Mary Boyle, Laura Michelini, Kathy Morris, Anna and Tim Murphy, Barbara, Bob, Meg, and Debbie Perkaus, Carole Reed, Tony Robinson, Nan-cy Simpson, Sue Taras, Lejla Turulja, and Marg Whitman. This week’s order will include some of the sweet potatoes that we processed! A special thank you to Lejla, who is visiting from Bosnia. She was invited by Sue Taras.

PEOPLE OF HOPE Throughout this Easter season the readings have drawn us into the experience of the early Church. We have tasted the excitement and zeal of the first Chris-tians. Now, with them, we listen to the words of Saint Peter, who reminds us that when people notice that we are people of hope, we should be ready to explain why. This challenges us. Do others even no-tice that we are people of hope? In a world often marked by cynicism and hopelessness, do we stand out as people who offer hope and reassurance to oth-ers? In today’s Gospel Jesus promises that when he leaves the earth he will not leave us orphaned. Today he promises to send his Advocate, the Spirit of truth who will be with us always. Northside Catholic Academy Now Hiring for 2017-18 Extended Care Program Northside Catholic Academy is looking for fun and respon-sible adults to supervise students in our Extended Day Program (ECP) beginning in August 2017. We are looking for outgoing individuals to work during our morning and/or afternoon hours. This is an hourly paid staff position.
