SYNOPSIS:

The Project Planning Breakthroughs workshop is a first course in the Preparation for Success Program. It allows you to get a solid understanding of proven project planning methods currently used in today’s fast-paced business environment. You’ll learn project planning skills through case studies, hands-on exercises and practical experiences that you can use immediately to ensure the planning of any project in any type of organization.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:

This course is aimed at individuals who need to strengthen their project management skill sets, those new to project management, or project managers seeking a refresher on funda-mental project management knowledge, skills and current tools. This course is also suitable for anyone who supports or initiates projects.

FORMAT:

A 3-day workshop using real-life projects to implement theory and techniques for success in project planning.

We do not expect our participants simply to listen and memorize. Instead, we follow a pro-ven approach which guarantees that participants engage in the learning process, apply a new concept to a real-world situation and collaborate with each other.

Participants will work in teams to define an actual project of their choice, preferably one that is currently in the planning or execution phase.

The majority of the work during the workshop is organized in the following manner:

• The instructor discusses a fragment of a Project Definition

• Each team describes that aspect of their own project

• Each team verifies the work of the other team, asks additional questions and checks correctness of the description provided by the other team

• The instructor summarizes the work of both teams, checks methodological correctness, provides feedback, points out the most common mistakes and discusses best practice

A HANDS-ON WORKSHOP THAT HELPS YOU MASTER SCHEDULING TOOLS AND PREPARE A HIGHLY RELIABLE PROJECT PLAN

SYNOPSIS:

Constructing a viable project schedule after defining the project work requires the right mix of “science” and “art”. Typically a project manager doesn’t have a similar schedule from a prior project to rely on and must build the schedule from scratch. This class introduces proven processes and techniques for the “science” of building a schedule and creating re-alistic estimates. Additional topics include recognizing schedule management issues and applying sound judgment to address the “art” of effective project management.

The Project Scheduling Breakthroughs workshop is a second course in the Preparation for Success Program that shows you how to build a reliable schedule in a cost and time efficient manner. By the end of this class you should be able to create viable schedules for you projects and effectively manage them.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:

This course is aimed at all individuals who need to strengthen or refresh their scheduling skill sets, managers who need to validate work estimates, clients, customers and all stakeholders that help prepare and validate estimates. The only prerequisite of the course is familiarity with Windows operating system and at least basic knowledge of project management.

The workshop is a great follow up for all attendees of the Project Planning Breakthroughs.

THIS COURSE WILL HELP YOU:

• Understand the purpose of a project schedule and estimating work

• Build a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and network diagram

• Estimate the work, duration and cost associated with the schedule

• Create a final schedule that can be used as the basis for managing the project

• Utilize a number of different estimating techniques (e.g. analogy, expert opinion)

• Determine the level of accuracy required and estimate at that level

• Prepare viable estimates in terms of effort, duration and cost

• Estimate the possible end date for completion of a phase or the whole project and esti-mate its final budget

• Accurately monitor projects through proven tracking and updating techniques

• Calculate scheduling and budgetary effects of changes made to original plans

• Modify the original plans in response to emerging problems or scope change requests

Participants will work in teams to create a Work Breakdown Structure and schedule of an actual project of their choice. All project simulations are run on Barbecana Full Monte™ add-in for MS Project or Primavera made available by the instructors for all participants for the time of the workshop; the participants learn how to operate several basic Full Monte™ functions that allow to perform some basic simulations

You’ll learn how to apply knowledge, skills, tools, techniques, and resources to project activities to meet project requirements, effectively and accurately communicate with project stakeholders, and manage teams to keep them motivated and focused on project goals. At the completion of this course you will manage your projects with a busi-ness-savvy approach.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:

This course is aimed at individuals who need to strengthen their project management skill sets, those new to project management, or project managers seeking a refresher on fun-damental project management knowledge, skills and current tools.

The workshop is a great follow up for all attendees of the Project Planning Breakthroughs and Project Scheduling Breakthroughs.

THIS COURSE WILL HELP YOU:

• Understand the difference between issues, risks, and scope changes

• Identify issues, risks, and scope changes and use appropriate techniques to manage them

• Be proactive and prevent constant firefighting by solving problems before they escalate

“Guess then check” is a very effective method used in adult education. It engages people and inspires them to share their ideas with the group. Active engagement in the workshop translates to better memorization of project management techniques and other content.

EARN THE TENSTEP PROJECT MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATION (TSPM)!TenStep offers a global project management certification program that is truly unique in the marketplace. The TenStep Project Management (TSPM™) certification requires a com-bination of experience, knowledge and demonstration.

Experience. Candidates must be prequalified and must have demonstrated project man-agement experience. This includes a minimum of:

• Five years of industry experience

• Three years working on projects

• One year in a leadership position on a project

The three criteria above are waived if you currently have a PMP® Certification from the Project Management Institute.

Knowledge. Demonstrated by passing the final test consisting of 100 multiple choice questions.

Demonstration. Each student must successfully demonstrate their project management skills by solving an advanced case study.

EXAM

The certification is earned by attending Preparation for Success Program consisting of:

and passing the exam.

Students that successfully pass the TSPM™ exams will receive the TSPM™ certificate.

ABOUT TSPM™

The TSPM certification is based on the TenStep Project Management Process, which is fully aligned with the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®) Guide from PMI.

Each successful TSPM™ professional will also have licensed access to the world-class Ten-Step Project Management Process. You will need this project management process to help you successfully manage projects in your organization. This access can be granted through an individual license or as a member of a company license.

This approach reinforces the concepts and principles learned for effective project manage-ment. As a result, the students are more prepared to apply the methodology to real life situations.
