Thank you to everyone who has already

made a pledge to the 2018 Catholic Ministries

Annual Appeal (CMAA). Your gifts will benefit so

many through the thirty ministries our annual

appeal supports.

Our parish’s goal for the 2018 CMAA is

$106,700. Our hope is that every parishioner will

contribute as partners in caring, as every gift —

large and small — makes a difference. If we raise

more than our goal, 70% of the amount paid over

goal will be returned to us for our use. This is an

amazing opportunity for our parish!

Please prayerfully reflect on your pledge to this

year’s CMAA. In-pew envelopes are still available

in the church, or you can make a gift online at

jolietdioceseappeal.org.

LENTEN REGULATIONS 1. Everyone 14 years of age or over is bound to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and all the Fridays of Lent. 2. All from the age of 18 years up to the beginning of their 60

th year are

bound to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.

3. On these two days of fast and abstinence, only one full meatless meal is allowed. Two other meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted on these two days, but liquids, including milk and fruit juices are allowed. When health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. 4. To disregard completely the law of fast and abstinence is seriously sinful. 5. Lent is the principal season of penance in the Church year. All of the faithful are strongly urged to develop and follow a program of voluntary self-denial (in addition to following the Lenten regulations), serious prayer, and a performance of works of charity and mercy.

Ornaments for the Easter Giving Tree will be available

beginning February 24th & 25th in the Church Atrium.

Each ornament will have boy/girl and

age. All Easter Baskets must fit into the bag provided when the

tag is signed out.

All baskets must be returned no later than March 18

th.

Drop baskets off at weekend masses to a SVDP volunteer or to an usher. If dropping off during the week bring to the Padua Center. Through your generosity you help to make a child’s Easter a little more special. Thank You! Please Contact Cookie Galmines @ 815-469-4237 or Robin Gies @ 708-567-0762 with any questions.

St. Vincent dePaul Society St. Anthony Conference

I n t o d a y ’ s G o s p e l , G o d demonstrates great love for us by sending his Son that we may believe in him. We demonstrate our great love for God by doing good works:

reaching out to others, acting in justice and charity. Through your almsgiving you are performing a good work; far greater than you think. Know that your coins and dollars are multiplied by all the other coins and dollars placed in the collection or St. Vincent de Paul poor box. Thank you for your donations of food and money for our Food Pantry and helping

with financial burdens of over 40 families through their daily struggles. If you know of a person/family struggling in our area, give them the SVDP phone number to call us and we can find what way we might be able to help them. SVDP office: 815-469-3750 X114 Reminders: We are collecting the Jewel Food Monopoly game pieces. Next SVDP meeting is March 26. If you wish to join us to find out what we do, and how you can help, just show up at 7 p.m. in the Padua Center.

Lenten Learnings

Laetare Sunday is the popular name

for the fourth Sunday in Lent. Laetare

means "Rejoice" in Latin. Because the

midpoint of Lent is the Thursday of the

third week of Lent, Laetare Sunday has

traditionally been viewed as a day of

celebration, on which the more solemn

tone of Lent is briefly lessened and on

Laetare Sunday, the purple vestments

and altar cloths of Lent are sometimes

set aside, and rose ones are used

instead.

Catechist Corner

Can the Church really forgive sins?

Yes. Jesus not only forgave sins himself,

he also conferred on the Church the mis-

sion and the power to free men from

their sins. Through the ministry of the

priest, the penitent receives God's for-

giveness, and his guilt is wiped away as

completely as if it had never existed. A

priest can do this only because Jesus al-

lows him to participate in his own divine

power to forgive sins. (YOUCAT question

150)

Dig Deeper: CCC section (981-987)

When we have done something wrong,

we are often tempted to hide what we

have done from others. Sometimes we

even think that we can hide our sins

from God. But because Jesus died for

our salvation, we do not hide our sins

from God. Instead we confess our sins

to God, confident that God forgives us.

We experience God’s forgiveness

t h r o u g h t h e S a c r a m e n t o f

Reconciliation. During Lent, many

people take the opportunity to

ce lebra te the Sac rament o f

Reconciliation so that they can

exper ience the joy of God's

forgiveness.

Question for Children: Who is one

person in your life who supports your faith

and helps it to grow?

Question for Adults: The Gospel speaks of

following God as coming toward the light.

How can you move towards the light in

your own life? What is the

darkness that needs Jesus’ healing in your

life?

40 Days For Life New Planned Parenthood Abortion

Clinic in Flossmoor, IL There is a new, large Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in Flossmoor at 19831 S. Governors Highway, just north of the intersection with Vollmer Road—one of PP’s mega-clinics-following a model first seen in Aurora, IL ten years ago. A 40 Days for Life vigil will kick off the public response to the abortion clinic. It will take place on the public right of way in front of this new Planned Parenthood beginning on Ash Wednesday, February 14th, and continuing through Palm Sunday, March 25th. The prayerful presence of 40 Days for Life campaigns in front of abortion clinics twice a year over time has led to many abortion clinics closing because of the decline in abortions during the vigils and the doubts which have been planted in the minds of Planned Parenthood workers, including clinic managers. The vigil will be maintained 12 hours each day, from 8:00 am until 8:00 pm. It will consist of a quiet, peaceful prayer presence on the public right of way in front of the clinic. Individuals or groups can sign up for one hour, the same hour every week, several hours, one or more days, whatever portion of the vigil for which each volunteer wants to sign up. To sign up for vigil hours online go to https://40daysforlife.com/local-campaigns/Flossmoor. To sign up a group for a specific day or days contact John Ryan at 708-945-8247 or by email at [email protected] John can also assist those wanting to sign up who do not have internet access. You can also contact Pastor Ceasar LeFlore at 708-378-4712 or by email at [email protected] for more information. For further information on 40 Days for Life in general go online to www.40DaysforLife.com.

A Prayer for Our Country O Most Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Mercy, at this most critical time, we entrust the United States of America to your loving care. Most Holy Mother, we beg you to reclaim this land for the glory of your Son. Overwhelmed with the burden of the sins of our nation, we cry to you from the depths of our hearts and seek refuge in your motherly protection. Look down with mercy upon us and touch the hearts of our people. Open our minds to the great worth of human life and to the responsibilities that accompany human freedom. Free us from the falsehoods that lead to the evil of abortion and threaten the sanctity of marriage and family life. Grant our country the wisdom to proclaim that God’s law is the foundation on which this nation was founded and that He alone is the True Source of our cherished rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. O Merciful Mother, give us the courage to reject the culture of death and the strength to build a new Culture of Life. Amen.

Help Feed the Homeless! For the past 30+ years, St. Anthony’s Parish has been responsible for preparing and serving dinner on the fourth Saturday of every month, at the Catholic Charities Daybreak Shelter in Joliet. We are looking to revamp

this ministry and would love the input of new volunteers. No contribution or involvement is too small! Please come to an informational meeting on Monday, March 19th at 7:00 pm in Memenas Hall. If you are interested and cannot attend, please contact Deacon Don Berkey at 815-922-4049 or [email protected]. All ages are welcome. Besides being fun and incredibly fulfilling, students can satisfy their graduation or REP volunteer requirements!

Dear St. Anthony Parishioners, We are reaching out to you on behalf of the St. Anthony Catholic Preschool. The mission of St. Anthony Catholic Preschool, in partnership with family, church, and community is to prepare our students spiritually, intellectually, physically, and socially for Kindergarten. Established in 1999, the administration and teachers of St. Anthony Catholic Preschool have been teaching young students in our community following the philosophy of parents as the primary educators who form the basis of a child’s earliest experiences of love, community, and faith. The early childhood education program builds upon this foundation and provides

developmentally appropriate experiences designed to meet psychological, emotional, social, spiritual, and cognitive needs of the young child. Additionally, the dignity of the individual child is recognized in this Christ centered environment. In order to sustain the mission and philosophy of the St. Anthony Catholic Preschool, we hold several small fundraisers throughout the year; however the majority of our funding comes from our main fundraiser held in the spring. This year our fundraiser, St. Anthony Catholic Preschool Fun ‘n’ Fit, will be held on April 21

st, 2018,

from 11:00a.m. to 2:00p.m. The fundraiser will start with a preschool wide walk-a-thon followed by a community wide funfest. We are actively seeking sponsorships and/or donations; whether that be a cash gift, product, service, event ticket or even a unused gift for our raffle baskets. Further information on Sponsorships can be found below. Donations can be mailed to or dropped off at St. Anthony Preschool, 7659 W. Sauk Trail, Frankfort, IL 60423. If you have any questions or need a donation picked up, please contact Pat Smart, Principal, at 815-469-5417. Further information about St. Anthony Catholic Preschool can be found on our website www.stanthonyfrankfort.com. Thank you in advance for your generosity. Together we can and do make a difference in the lives of many children! With gratitude,
