INVITED

The Good News is that we have all been invit-

ed—invited to the Kingdom, invited to be disciples.

It’s a life-changing invitation, and like so many other

such invitations, it requires a great deal of deliberation

and discernment. Whether we choose marriage, ordina-

tion, single life, or community life, we know the seri-

ous planning and consideration that accompany these

profound decisions. Like the tower-builder in the Gos-

pel, we have weighed both the monetary and emotional

cost. We have pondered and planned our lives in the

direction to which we believe God has called us. And

while we pray for guidance and acceptance of God’s

will, we often fail to understand so much. Like Solo-

mon, we turn to God for wisdom and counsel in our

life-changing decisions.

SACRAMENT OF THE SICK: Call 364-6150 day or night. OR during office hours to schedule the Sacrament of Anointing prior to surgery or if health is serious or an accident has occurred. It is a Sacrament of healing and comfort, not necessarily of the dying.

Have you read a good book lately? If not let me offer three classic Catholic Fiction Books. I thought about giving you some Catholic Classics of Spirituality or Theology, maybe in another note. I am convinced that the Catholic Tradition is full of the great works of beauty from the Western World. Here are three of my favorites: Death Comes for the Archbishop by Wila Cather is the fictionalized biography of the first Bishop of Santa Fe, Archbishop Lamey. The story of his many true friendships and his dedication to a people placed in his care as Pastor is stunningly beautiful. The Bridge of San Luis Rey by Thornton Wilder is a fictional novel about the interrelated lives of a group of people who die in the collapse of a bridge. A Franciscan Friar witnesses the event and decides he has to figure out why they died. Based on a real place and a real bridge the rest is all fiction. It asks the question, “Is there some kind of cosmic control over the lives of people here on Earth or not?” The Moviegoer by Walker Percy a story about an up and coming stockbroker from the Big Easy. The Pro-tagonist Binx Bolling lives a life of indifference without real commitment, maybe even without a change in his life except that someone more broken than he becomes the center of his life, as he prepares for marriage. They are each authors, Percy is the only Catholic, who ask perennial questions about life and death, friend-ship, and love. They are worth the time investment you will turn the final page a better person than when you turned the flyleaf.

Rosary for Priest and Religious Life. A small group will lead in prayer after the

5:30PM Tuesday Mass, anyone who would like to stay and pray the rosary for priest and reli-

gious life are more than welcome.

RCIA REMINDER WED., SEPT 7 ORIENTATION of all Candidates-

Catechumens-Spouses-etc. R.C.I.A. sessions begin at 8:45 AM (NOTE the NEW time of Mass! Don’t be

late!) Mass on Sunday SEPT 11.

Saint Anthony Church will continue to HOST resident birthday parties for two months in the year: OCTOBER 20 at 3 PM in Lamar Room and APRIL 20

at 3 PM in Lamar Room. We are responsible for a regular

cake and a low sugar dessert, Servers, Smilers :) Huggers,

and maybe some music or fun to make it even more memo-

rable. Call the church office if you would com-

mit to coordinating 4 people to help and show

up with lots of LOVE or to offer to help the or-

ganizer person! Thank you.

Our Lady of the Rosary! October 7th, the First Friday Mass at 6pm, will

be in Spanish. The Mass is going to be held for

the Guatemalan families in our community! We

will host a dinner after the Mass to celebrate

‘Our Lady of the Rosary.’ We will also

be having a Coat and Blanket Drive to

help the Guatemalan families in the

community. More information will be

posted later in the month. If you have
