PRESIDENT’S PEN

Well the Slimmer of the Year event is over for another year. Congratulations to all the entrants and especially

1st Naomi Anderson from Forrestfield WW with a weight loss of 21kgs 2nd Dana Quirk from Rockingham WW with a weight loss of 16.5kgs and 3rd Marg Burns from Cannington WW with a loss of 16Kgs (a full list of entrants is in this issue).

It was lovely for Forrestfield to win it for a second time as we have only been going for 10 years and have had some impressive results over that time. But of course our entrant Naomi did all the hard work and comes to club each week even though she does not live in the area. I know she will keep up the good work to get to her goal weight. Congratulations also go to 2015 Slimmer of the Year Kerry Galloway who was the recipient of the WWF Diamond Award as she maintained her weight loss for 12 months. It was nice to see WWF Past Presidents, Evelyn McCartney (as it isn't easy for her to get around anymore,) Phyllis Pask and Linda Champness at the SOY event. We even managed to get a photo of them together! It was disappointing to see so many arriving late when we had started the presentations, perhaps we need to HIGHLIGHT the start time in future. To all the country clubs who attended a big thank you it is always nice to see them! It seemed as if all were happy with the lunch. I hope so and if you won a prize at the function that was an added bonus. Cheers. Aileen

ESPERANCE WEIGHT WATCHERS It is time again to bring you news of our Esperance Club activities. We started our meetings for 2016 on the first Thursday in February and we have had some interesting meetings. Over the past two months we have lost 13.6 kilos. Some of our members are doing very well at losing weight. Lauren Cooper is our nomination for the Slimmer of the Year Competition. She has lost eleven kilos since February 2015. Lauren and Merle have both tried the recipes in the last Federation newsletter and bought them to the meetings for us to sample. We all enjoyed the sweet potato fritters and cheesecake recipes. Quite a number of our members have been unwell or have had surgery. Betty Parker, one of our long term members has moved to Rockingham and we will miss her. We are having an apple tree competition at present and some of the members are still hanging on. Others have fallen off. At one of our meetings we held a show and tell time. We have some very clever members as the display of knitting and crocheted items was very impressive, other members bought along craft and other precious items. One of the most admired items was a hand worked framed picture of the 23rd Psalm, which was done by the daughter of Merle. Last Thursday we had a speaker from the Esperance Care services. This group has an op shop and reaches out in many ways to people in our community through food hampers, counselling and work with mentally ill people. We all found Sue Meyers address extremely interesting and informative. Goodbye and happy weight watching Frances Graham

BYFORD DAYTIME WEIGHT WATCHERS

Hi all Wasn’t it nice to see a bit of rain. I for one rely on my rainwater tank for all my water needs and I get a bit concerned at this time of the year if we haven’t had any. Our March Queen of the month in the main group was won by Queen Jean with a loss of 1.9 kg, second was princess Jill with a loss of 1.7 kg and third was princess Mavis with a loss of .5 kg. The grads had a draw between Margie and Pam with a variation of 0.2 kg Brenda was 3rd with a variation of 0.4 kg. Keith, Trish, Annelise, Robyn and Rosemary have had Birthdays in March. Lyn won the Apple Tree. Our April Queen of the month in the main group was won by Queen Marg J with a loss of 2.1 kg second was princess Glenys with a loss of 1.1 kg and Princess Sarah was 3rd with a loss of 0.7 kg. in the Grads Queen Margie won with a variation of 0.2 kg and princess Brenda was 2nd with a variation of 0.8 kg. Marg J was our Slimmer of the Year entry. We will be holding our A.G.M on the 28th of April this year. Take care, See you next month Cath

Slimmer of the year - Special thanks

To Jo Vernon, Sue Harding and Tony Harding for all your hard work on the day especially all those dishes at the end, it was hot and humid in that kitchen. To Shirley and John Sardelich for picking up and returning all the items that were required on the day. To Lorraine and Christine for their help in selling raffle tickets and stock. Thanks also to Jenny - President from Cannington for the balloons. It was lovely to see John Hamilton so soon after his nasty accident, we missed him at set-up, for as long as I can remember he has always been there. But we did have David and his wife from Cannington as his deputies for the clean-up for which we thank them. Thanks also to Lyn Smith for the lovely cake, we hope everyone received a piece. To Liesa my daughter-in-law thanks so much for taking the photos, as soon as they are available we will let you all know. All in all, it was a lovely day. BELMONT WEIGHT WATCHERS

February and March were busy months at Belmont WW. First, we welcomed two new members, Shirley S and Ros T-B. Our slimmer of the Year is Bev who has now gone 20 weeks without gaining weight. Congratulations Bev, you are an inspiration to us all. Barbara, who joined last year, is now a Keeper in Waiting – well done! All our grads are doing well, keeping within their weight for the last 3 months and for the year, with Joyce being our Grad closest to her grad weight for the year and awarded the annual trophy at the AGM on 5 April. Also at the AGM, the Phil Hicks Trophy went to Bev and the Presidents Trophy to Maggie. Annmarie received a loyalty award for 10 years’ membership. Congratulations to all and thanks for contributing to the success of our club. Quite a few members continued their weight loss journey with 4-week daisies awarded to Codi, Bev, Barbara, Diane, Andrew and Beryl R, who was February Queen. We also celebrated the birthdays of Beryl B, Bev, and Rosemarie. It seems every time you see a healthy living article green smoothies are mentioned so in February we tried them ourselves. Kay organised the fruit and veggies while Maggie and Maureen brought in “Magic Bullet” blenders. We had two recipes, which really are just guidelines: 2 cups leafy greens 2 cups liquid 3 cups ripe fruit We had a blend of kale, spinach, oranges, banana and ginger plus water and ice, and another similar one with celery and apple. Members enjoyed the tasting session with the ginger mix coming out slightly ahead. In March we made and decorated Easter hats – the decorations were awarded for weight loss in our internal competition – and then enjoyed a Hat Parade. Ros, Beryl K and Joyce won the weight loss competition.

Andrew had a punk-rock makeover with hair and beard dyed fluoro colours for the World’s Greatest Shave fundraiser. The club donated $100 to the cause and members a further $271. Good work everyone! Our annual competition with the Madora Bay club began on 5 April. Good luck to both clubs! Regards Maggie Van Putten

WASP BUSSLETON

Just now we are all having our school holiday break coping with family and holiday visitors. Back to business next week. WASPS was able this time around to enter a member in the Slimmer of the Year competition which is a good feeling. So proud of Lois doing so well for herself and the moral boost it gave everyone. We have a new member, Carol, who is a weight watcher from way back and who has now joined us in the ongoing quest for slimness. Apple tree winner last month was Jeanette and she received her just reward. Really makes you feel good when you can recognise that you are heading in the right direction. Well done Jeanette. EAST MADDINGTON WEIGHT WATCHERS Hi fellow Weight Watchers What a month, our club continues to grow. Our slimmer of the year entrant this year was our beautiful President Bobbie who lost a fantastic amount of 14 ½ Kg. This year 30 of our members attended the Slimmer of the Year Luncheon to Support our Winning Member. Congratulations has to be said to the committee once again for organizing a great day, the lunch was fantastic and beautifully presented. Our club did really with our members scooping up 2 Door Prizes – 2 Raffle Prizes and 4 $20 prizes on the money boards... A great day was had by us all. Happy Shrinking Maxine

SUNSHINE SLIMMERS - GERALDTON

Where is the rain we were promised!! Did I miss it, we had one quick Easter shower on my property, still waiting for the rest of it to arrive. The Sunshine Slimmer’s club had its AGM last week, with no changes to the office bearers for the 2016/17 period. President - Marilyn Chester, Secretary - Florence Brennan/Ellery, Treasurer -Marlene Coombs. Weights room ladies - Nalda DeYoung and Dianne Starr. President Marilyn sincerely thanked her committee for their support over the past year and also thanked the members for their continued support of the club each week. Numbers have been down this year, due to illness and member been away, but the supporters will always come each week. We welcomed back this year Jean Maddren, who has been ill, how nice to see her back at the club. We do know that losing weight can be a constant struggle for some women, but coming each week and finding that support among our members – works a treat. So do not be disheartened - just keep on trying - and good luck to everyone this year for the Apple tree and other challenges of weight loss. We have our big fund raising event for the year happening on the 26th May, each year our club has a morning tea for the Cancer Foundation, the effort that our members put in on the day is amazing, members donate everything for the morning, the raffles, the food, all goes in our donation to the cancer program for research. This year we have also supported the ladies of the Yarloop CWA with a cash donation of $550 this was sent to the club this month, we just cannot imagine losing everything – and we certainly hope that our donation will go in some small way to help their club. GREENWOOD WEIGHT WATCHERS

Many thanks to all the committee members for making “Slimmer of the Year” such a successful day. My own experience as a recipient receiving a medal was one of great pleasure. Can’t begin to imagine how the winner would have felt. We have a new competition at the club, we all have buddies for support, it will run for six weeks. Last week we had a night of dressing to suit what makes us look good. Some members have had their correct colours done for them, usually you are one of the four seasons Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter. It was a fun night, something different.
