“Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you!”- LUKE 1:28

Faith is a gift from God. Take time in silence and thank Him for all the gifts He has given you.

Try to set aside any anger or resentment you have and really open your heart to receive the

gift of God’s mercy and forgiveness. We can’t give what we don’t have. We need to receive

God’s mercy and forgiveness first before we can give it to others.

Fourth Sunday of Advent In the first reading, God promises King David that his house and his kingdom will endure forever. It is through Mary’s “Yes” — “I am the handmaid of the Lord. Let it be done to me as you say.” — that the promise finds fulfillment. See Luke 1:38

Page 5: WITH MARY, SERVING C - Our Lady of Assumption Parisholassumption.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/Bulletin-12.24.17.pdf · DECEMBER 24 2017 of the Our Lady The Fourth Sunday of Advent

The Lord is near. He is knocking at the door of your heart. He is a beggar out in the cold of unbelief

and indifference in our society. Be merciful. Let Him in to dine with you. Go to Mass this Christmas.

Merry Christmas.

We are consecrating the United States of America and State of California to Our Lady of Fatima this

weekend. We live in perilous times. At every level our guardian angels are battling a tremendous

invisible battle for the future of civilization. To join with them, it is urgent that we pray for our city,

our county, our State and our Nation. Our Lady of Fatima asked us to pray the rosary for peace.

Beginning now and into the New Year, let each of us reach for that powerful weapon daily.

In the Parish Council and the Commissions we have been discussing our mission, values and goals

for the next 3 to 5 years. For many years our parish motto has been With Mary, serving Christ in

the World. To give relevance and full meaning to this motto we proclaim a new awareness that the

Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary are at the center of everything we do and

are. Together, they lead us to the Father in the love and holiness of the Holy Spirit. This is why we

are consecrating our families and homes to these Two Hearts this coming Sunday, December 31,

the last day of the centennial year of the apparitions of Our Lady in Fatima.

Now, this is how we describe our mission and values: Our Lady of the Assumption Parish is a

Catholic community that celebrates with devotion all the Sacraments, that welcomes with

humility those whom the Lord sends us and serves with respect the larger human community in

the Central Valley and around the world. How this vision and values translates into goals and

actions is to be decided and proposed in the months and years ahead. We welcome input and

discussion in this process.

Let us live with joy and hope this blessed time of Christmas. Let us be agents of peace in a New

Year through our prayer, our actions and our renewed attitudes of forgiveness, generosity and love.

Again, Merry Christmas. Happy New Year.

What is Life Teen? As a Eucharist-centered movement within the Roman Catholic Church, Life Teen leads teenagers and their families into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church. With the Blessed Virgin Mary as our intercessor and guide, Life Teen seeks to unleash the fullness of the Sacramental power present within the young Church.

What are Lifenights?

Lifenights are weekly large-group gatherings for high schoolers that immediately follow the Life Teen Mass. There are three basic types of Life Nights: Doctrinal (a.k.a. Catechetical), Issue, and Social. Doctrinal nights follow the semester theme and break open a particular tenant of the faith. Issue nights deal with specific “real-world issues” that teens deal with (e.g. drinking, gossip, chastity, etc.). These nights help the teens see how their Catholic faith is relevant to every aspect of their lives. Finally, social nights build Christian community and friendships. Lifenights take place every Sunday from 7:30 PM - 9 PM.

How else are the youth involved?

High Schoolers at OLA are welcome to join us for Summit, a lectionary-based discipleship group that meets weekly on Monday nights at 6 PM. We read, reflect on, and plan to implement the following Sunday’s Gospel into our lives. Teens are also welcome to sign up to join a Discipleship Group (D-Group) that meets weekly to grow in faith and commu-nity. D-Groups last until the teens graduate, causing the teens and Core member with them to become a little family of their own.

What is the Core team and how do I join?

One passionate youth minister is great, but one person can-not minister to an entire youth group. That is where the Core team comes in. Core Members are adults who choose to re-spond to their baptismal call by serving young people. The Life Teen Program relies heavily on the time and talents of adults within the parish community, men and women who truly care about our youth, and who are selfless enough to make sacrifices that ensure that our young people come to know God through the love of Christ and the truth of the Sacraments. One question you have to ask yourself is, “Who can serve as a Core Member?” If you have that image in your head of what the perfect Core Member looks and acts like, get rid of it. There is no “one perfect” look. We’re looking for servant hearts, hearts that are form-able, not just the “perfect-looking” or the “perfectly formed” Core. One can apply for the Core Team by filling out the applica-tion below and having an interview with the youth minister.

Who do I contact for more information?
