New Membership Promotions The Wisconsin Moose Association has announced its latest membership pro-motion. Sign up 3 new or former members between May 1, 2016 and April 30, 2017 and receive $10 in WMA Moose bucks, which are good at any Wiscon-sin Moose Lodge. Sign up 5 in the same time frame and receive a duffle bag with the 100th anniversary logo. The WI WOTM also have a promotion running. Sign up 5 new members be-tween May 1, 2016 and October 31, 2016 and receive a royal blue fleece jack-et with the WOTM rose decal. The Racine Moose also receives financial benefits for reaching our monthly membership goals along with growing our lodge. Thank you in advance for you efforts!

Hello Moose Members, Well it looks like winter is coming. We have many things going at our lodge. One of those things is Retention Week, November 6 – 12. During this time, we will have activities to help get the expired members to re-join. Keep in the back of your mind that retention is a very big part of the Moose. If you have sponsored a member and they have not renewed their dues, bring them in between the 6th and the 12th. We will have board members here to address any issue or answer questions about how important the Moose is to the children at Mooseheart and seniors at Moosehaven. Retention Week is for both men and women. I would like to thank all of the volunteers at the lodge, you help make our lodge one of the best in the state. Also, don’t forget the state bowling tournament will be in Racine next year starting at the end of February.

Fraternally Yours Carl Bauer - Governor

What’s Going On

WOTM Bake Sale: The Women of the Moose will be having a bake sale on Friday, November 4th. It will be held in the hall beginning at 5 pm. Please bring out your favorite recipes to share. We will be looking for people to bake, purchase or both. Items can be dropped off Friday after 3:00 pm in the hall. Any questions, contact Debbie Roeder at 639-7222 or [email protected].

Breakfast: We will again have breakfast on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Sundays of the month. The Moose Riders will be hosting the 2nd again featuring blueberry pancakes. Your men’s and women’s boards will be putting on the 3rd.

Dollar Game: Along with the 2nd Sunday breakfast, the Moose Riders will also be putting on our own Dollar Game after their breakfast is complete.

Thursday Sandwich: Steve is offering up some kind of sandwich on dartball nights. For only $5, you get said sandwich, chips and one of Mom’s homemade cookies. Check the website on Thursdays (sometimes we know on Wednesday), or follow us on Facebook to find out what the sandwich is for the day.

Lodge closed on Thanksgiving: But that means that the night before is our annual Thanksgiving Eve Bash. Louann throws quite a party with drink specials, games and many, many door prizes.

Torsk Dinner: Also referred to as “poor man’s lobster”, torsk consists of baked cod filets with melted butter, boiled red potatoes, carrots and onions. Coleslaw, rye and pumpernickel bread, bleu cheese, mustard gravy, kringle and coffee fin-ishes the meal. Or does it? Absolutely not! No respectable torsk dinner would be complete without shorty beer and shots of Akvavit; a caraway flavored vodka from Scandinavia. The Akvavit is consumed as a group, with all participants toasting, saying “SKOAL” as long and loud as possible. Half of the torsk dinner is enjoying the meal, the other half is enjoying the camaraderie of the people. Try it, you might just like it. November 29, 7:00 pm.

Mooseheart Tree Lighting: We will again be taking a bus (or 2) down to Mooseheart to see the Christmas tree lighting and visit with the Wisconsin kids on December 3rd. Lunch at Mooseheart, and dinner at the Zion/Benton lodge are included in the $30 price. See your bartenders to sign up and pay your money. Every member should experience this at least once to give you some insight into why we do what we do. Deadline to sign up is November 20.

Meat Raffle: Ron “Buca” Kroes will again be hosting a meat raffle on December 10th at 1:30 pm in the social quarters. You will have the opportunity to win many hundreds of dollars worth of meat. Besides the meat, Buca will have many oth-er prizes to give away, as well as 50/50 raffles and much fun and silliness.

Mystery Box: In conjunction with the meat raffle, there is also a mystery box being raffled off. The $300 valued item or items are on display now in the social quarters. Tickets can be purchased from your volunteer bartenders at $2 for a single ticket, 3 for $5, or 10 for $10. Drawing will be at the conclusion of the meat raffle. Need not be present to win.

Kid’s Christmas Party: Santa will be making an appearance at the lodge on December 17th due to the WOTM again making the “Nice” list. Breakfast will be served starting at 9:00 am until about 10. Games and treats and crafts will keep the little nippers busy. Cost for kids over 12 and adults is only $5. Due to space, we need to limit it to 2 adults per family. Registration form is on the back of this newsletter and must be turned in to a bartender no later than December 4.

Christmas Gift Card Tree: The WOTM will be collecting donations over the next few meetings for the Christmas Gift Card Raffle Tree. We hope to have enough gift cards donated to raffle 2 trees. Small donations of $5-20 gift cards would be great. Tickets will go on sale Thanksgiving weekend until December 17 when we will pick a winner(s)! Please drop off gift cards marked ATTN: WOTM in an envelope at the lodge or better yet bring them to a WOTM meeting the 2nd or 4thTuesday of the month; we would love to see you.

Merry Christmas: The lodge will be closed on Christmas day, but will be open for the Packer game on Christmas Eve until about 6:00 pm

New Year’s Eve Party: Steak and shrimp dinner, free rail drinks and comparable beer from 7:30-12:30 (you pay only the difference for call or top shelf drinks or craft and specialty beer), music, snacks, party favors, and champagne at midnight are included in the $40 per person cost for the evening. Look for the sign-up sheet soon in the social quarters.

Cookbook: There has been some interest in selling a WOTM Cookbook. In order to be successful, we would need to gather some of your favorite recipes. Is there that one recipe your family would miss over the holidays or your favorite go to for pot luck? We would love to hear your interest. If you have a few recipes you are willing to share send directly to [email protected].

Coming Soon: Horseshoe tournament on January 1. Comedy night on January 28. Super Bowl party February 5.

News from the WOTM

LOST OR CARD NOT RECEIVED? Anyone who has lost their card or has not received it, call the Moose help-line at 1-888-906-3658.

A lot of activities have come and gone in the month of October. A Great Packer Party, our annual Craft Fair, and fun Halloween parties for young and old, not to mention the pumpkin derby races. Thanks to ALL of the volunteers; things would not happen without them. Volunteer to help at one of the upcoming events. Look the newsletter over to see if you are interested in helping at one of the events.

As we look forward to the winter months ahead, some more than others, let us look for new events coming up:

On November 4th we will have our Fall Bake Sale from 5 until all is gone. Bring something for the WOTM to sell at it, or bring your money to take home many good treats to eat.

A NEW MEMBER Welcome Party will be held on November 22. Postcard invites will be sent out to all new members and their sponsors.

December 3rd will be here before you know it. That is the date of the annual bus trip to Mooseheart for the Christmas Tree Lighting. The WOTM want to pack the bus, or should I say buses. Sign up now, bring your spouse, children, mom or grandchild. It is truly an experience you will not regret attending. See where your money goes with all the fundraising and endowment money. The cost is $30. It includes the bus ride, lunch at Mooseheart, and dinner on the way home at the Moose Lodge in Zion/Benton, IL. Deadline to sign up is No-vember 20.

December 17th is the Children Christmas Party. It is from 9-noon. Look for the sign-up form on the back page of this newsletter.

New Member’s dues are $45; a renewal is $35. Sign up a new member today. Remind members you know to renew now. Linda Jensen
