We would like to thank everyone that helped

us make our Child’s Safety Day and the

Halloween Party a howling success. We can

not have successful events with out the help of

our volunteers.

At the Child’s Safety Day, the children learned

about fire safety, toured an ambulance, and

caught pancakes that were flipped to them by

Chris’ Cakes!

The Halloween Safe House had an amazing

turn out this year and the costumes were

Spooktacular! Well over 150 children from the

community stopped by to play games, make

s’mores, and went for a ride around O’Fallon

on the hay ride. We could not have done this

without the help of the McKendree College

volunteers to help set up and manage the

games, while the Women of the Moose served

refreshments and handed out candy!

FROM THE GOVERNOR The last quarter was extremely eventful and very

successful for our lodge. We had many events and were

able to help several organizations and some of our own

members along the way. This of course is not possible

without your continued support. My grateful thanks go

out to all that make it happen day in and day out. For

those that have not been able to join the fun, the next

quarter is not going to be any slower so please make an honest effort to get

involved we really need your help. Finally, many thanks to all that brought

new members on board. You continue to impress me with your

commitment and dedication to share our fraternity with others throughout

the community. A friendly reminder, it does not stop there. I encourage

you as a sponsor to explain the benefits, escort your newly signed member

to our meetings, ensure that they are aware of our daily/monthly events

and commit as much as time permits. As mentioned in the past, all of you

have many talents, suggestions, and ideas that can only be utilized or heard

if you get involved. Thanks again for your efforts, they don't go unnoticed.

If you are still not receiving this letter by electronic means and would like

to, please see Doug Hill, or myself so we can add your e-mail address or

ver ify/update the one we have on f i le for you.

Keep in Mind. "A burden heavy to one, is borne lightly by many"

ADMINISTRATOR’S CORNER

First, I would like to thank everyone who has helped out the

last couple of months. October was extremely busy with putt-

putt, child safety, and Halloween. Now we are in November as

you are reading this and in the middle of retention week of

members. I would like to encourage all of our members to

reach out to our existing members and remind them about

upcoming events and invite them to join. The American Legion has installed two steel

dart boards and we are looking to form teams for some town competitions. See your

local bartender if you are interested. For those interested in visiting the other lodges in

the district, District 9 is holding a Wandering Moose Competition. Stop by and ask

Doug for the tickets and information. There is always something going on with the

Moose, so paste your calendar to the refrigerator.

Fraternally Yours,

Doug Hill

We urge all our members to visit www.mooseintl.org at least weekly, for the latest news on

Mooseheart, Moosehaven, Moose Charities -- plus updates on fraternal activities, sporting

events and other breaking news from around the Moose fraternity!

In the Members Only section -- http://www.mooseintl.org/portal/default.asp -- you can also

pay your dues instantly, and change details about yourself in your individual member file!

The events listed in this newsletter are for members and their qualified guests only.

We want to Congratulate Jeff Jerashen on

winning $250.00 on the District 9 Football

and Charity Mania Raffle.

FALL MEAT SHOOT

Don't forget to come on out to our fall meat shoot at The Hut Sports Bar Saturday

November 8th and Sunday November 9th, Noon until dusk. There will be plenty of good

eats for all of the participants on both days. On Saturday there will be ham and beans, and

on Sunday, it will be beef stew. We will be shooting for hams, boneless pork loins, bacon,

mixed barbecue packages.

Most importantly, we have a raffle for a freezer full of food. Tickets are only $1 each, or six

for $5. The drawing will be held on Sunday November 9th at 4 PM. This event is one of our

largest fund raisers. So come on out and help your Lodge. Can we count on you being

there?

ANNUAL THANKSGIVING DAY DINNER

Once again, your Lodge is sponsoring a community wide Thanksgiving day dinner. Any

person in the Armed Forces or people within the community that do not have a place to

spend Thanksgiving are encouraged to have a traditional dinner with us. There is no cost

for the meal. We will begin eating at 11 A.M. - 1 PM and you may stay for as long as you

wish. If you have a side dish, you would be willing to share with others, please feel free to

bring it. If it needs to be cooked, arrive early enough to prepare it. Don't spend

Thanksgiving sitting home alone. Come up to the American Legion for friendship, and

fellowship with others.

SANTA PROMISES TO BE AT CHILDREN'S CHRISTMAS PARTY

The children better watch out, because Santa will be arriving around 2 PM on December 6

at the annual children's Christmas party. From 1 PM until 4 PM, there will be refreshments

and cookies, crafts, and games for those in attendance. Bring your kids, your grandkids, or

heck, even the neighbor's kids for some good old-fashioned fun. Take pictures of the

children with Santa, I'm sure he won't mind. Just be sure to get here for this family friendly

event.

ADULT CHRISTMAS PARTY IS SET FOR DECEMBER 6

Come on out to the joint American Legion Post 137 and O'Fallon Fairview Heights Moose

Lodge 2608 adult Christmas party. The fun starts at 7 PM, with attendance prizes, food,

music, and the dirty Santa gift exchange. The cost is four dollars for singles, and five dollars

for couples, in advance, and five dollars for singles, and seven dollars for couples at the

door. See any post or Lodge officer for reservations. Please bring a hot or cold snack to

share, and a $15 or less gift for the Dirty Santa gift exchange. Wrap your gift in the cheapest

wrapping paper you can find, or even the funny papers. This is not a contest to see who can

have the best wrapped gift. We promise to make the Dirty Santa gift exchange go much

quicker than it has in the past. We hope to see you there.

The officers of O'Fallon Moose Lodge 2608, and Women of the Moose Chapter 2281, wish

everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving, a very Merry Christmas, and a happy, healthy, and

prosperous New Year. Please drive safely, because we want to see you back next year.

There has been a lot of events that have happened over the last couple of months and it seems that it

is the same members over and over again who help and participate at the events. We invite all of you

to help, and if you can’t physically be at an event, there is always the behind the scenes things that need

to be done. We all want our Chapter to be successful and that takes teamwork.

The women will be helping the men at during the Meat Shoot on November 8th and 9th. We will need

volunteers to help selling tickets, raffle ball, and other activities during these two days.

Our next Women of the Moose meal will be November 12th and we will be dishing up some

scrumptious chili and hot dogs. We need servers and a cashier for this event. If you are in the area and

having a difficult time deciding what to eat for dinner that night, stop by and help support the Moose

and solve your dinner dilemma at the same time.

Don’t forget about helping with the men’s BBQ on November 15th and December 20th.

We will be sponsoring the Children’s Christmas Party on December 6th. This takes a lot of time and

effort to set up and decorate. We have lots of activities planned and will need some help so we can

make sure that the children will have a blast this holiday season.

All of our events take time and volunteers. If you can only volunteer an hour, it is greatly appreciated.

There will be sign up sheets for the upcoming events at the Legion or you can email Cheryl Hill at

[email protected] or contact Tony Dodge, and you all should know his email by now.

Are you known for making the best Pumpkin Pie? Or

have the best Sweet Potato Dish

ever? And you want to share it?

Then share your dish with us as we

come together to give thanks and

celebrate the holiday together at the

American Legion this year.

Bring your kids to come see Santa!

Santa is making a special trip for the Moose this year, and he

wants to see all good little

boys and girls this year to take

a picture to add to his good

list. Has your child (or Grand

children) been good this year?

Then bring them by to get

their picture with Santa and

share some cookies and milk.

What has antlers and sucks blood?

A moose-quito!

Why do moose have such big

antlers?

So they get better radio reception

A turkey farmer was always experimenting with breeding to

perfect a better turkey. His family was fond of the leg

portion for dinner and there were never enough legs for

everyone. After many frustrating attempts, the farmer was

relating the results of his efforts to his friends at the general

store get together. "Well I finally did it! I bred a turkey that

has 6 legs!"

They all asked the farmer how it tasted.

"I don't know" said the farmer. "I never could catch it!"

2. You don’t believe in Santa Claus

3. You dress up as Santa Claus
