Thousands of Moose members will descend upon the “Gateway to the West,” St. Louis,

Missouri, over the first weekend in July for what should be an entertaining and informative

2016 International Moose Convention.

Pre-registration is now closed, but members interested in attending can still register on site

beginning June 30.

The Moose Fraternity has “Built Our Foundation” over the past 12 months, but now it’s time to “Raise the Roof” in sup-port of our children, seniors and communities during the May 1, 2016 - April 30, 2017 campaign year. Last year we focused on growing our Lodges and Chapters — our foundation — in order to support our core values. Now it’s time to build on that success and push above those levels so that our communities can hear our celebration loud and clear. In order to expand our ability to support key endeavors, we need to rededicate our efforts in both production and reten-tion. This means creating higher value at the local and inter-national levels so that members don’t hesitate when a re-newal notice arrives. Utilizing proper new member orienta-tions and creatively implementing the Lodge Preferred Mem-ber Program are just a couple of suggestions for realizing a successful year of membership growth. This year’s one-member award, a “Moose — Raise the Roof” lapel pin, will be awarded by each Lodge, Chapter and Legion after a member sponsors his/her first candidate dur-ing the new campaign year. Individuals attaining member-ship in the Moose International 5 Club will receive a “5 Club” logo window decal, and the funds generated by these mem-bers will help support the replacement roof project for the

Administration Office at Moosehaven. This award is made possible by your State/Provincial Moose As-sociation, Women of the Moose and the Moose Le-gion. The Moose Rewards pro-gram offers ongoing bene-fits through this campaign as well. Moose Rewards provides valuable incentives to all Fraternity members. For each new or re-enrolled member sponsored during the “Raise the Roof” campaign, members will receive points that can be redeemed for prizes. Members sponsoring their first candidate ever will receive 6,000 points, which is nearly enough by itself to reach the first redemption level! In addi-tion, during May and June only, Moose International is offer-ing double points for completion of an officer training class. It’s the perfect time for officers to earn some extra points, but don’t forget that training is open and available for any members who wish to attend! R. Robert Dale Scholarship The Moose Fraternity is proud to offer scholarship opportunities to students in our local communities. The deadline for this year’s R. Robert Dale scholarship is June 30.

R. Robert Dale served as Secretary/Administrator of St. Charles, Illinois Lodge #1368. He passed away on August 15, 1983, leaving an estate of more than $2 million to be divided equally between the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Home and the Loyal Order of Moose, both for the purpose of providing scholarships.

In 1985, Director General Paul O’Hollaren and the Supreme Council approved a program in the R. Robert Dale Scholarship Fund was to be used to provide scholarships for higher education to the sons and daughters of Moose members, who had graduated from high school. Applicants for the program must be high school juniors with a grade-point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale. They are eligible only if their father, mother, step-parent, grandparent or legal guardian is a member of the Moose in good standing. The scholar-ship funds may be used for tuition, books and fees at any accredited vocational or aca-demic institution the recipient chooses to attend.

A Note from Moosehaven: Ten questions I asked myself, and Moose mem-bers over 65 should ask themselves: 1. Am I/we living alone with not much to do, just passing time with the TV, sitting on a bar stool or all day on the computer? 2. How much is loneliness affecting my/our health and if you had a problem how long might you suffer before you are found? 3. Do I/we have the finances to see me/us through a catastrophic health issue? 4. Who will bath and feed me/us if or when I be-come ill or age catches up with me? 5. After paying the monthly bills, do I still have the resources for both my food and medication? 6. Will I/we wither away and wind up in a nursing home? 7. How much of a financial burden will I/we be-come on my family? 8. Will my family go into debt trying to help me/us? 9. Am I/we being selfish, expecting our families to be there in our time of need? 10. Where can I/we live out the rest of our lives with dignity, having fun and extend my/our longevity? For more than 90 years, thousands of true-to-life Moose members have had the correct and unselfish answer to all these questions: it is called Moosehaven. Our five-star “City of Contentment,” our own beautiful estate in Orange Park, Florida, with more amenities than most of us could ever afford, with health care above reproach and camaraderie with so many of your fellow brother and sister Moose and of all your benefits as a member ... For just the price of dues, you insure this vital benefit is there for you and yours. In this new era of so many way to retire, here some can keep their cars and some can keep their bank accounts you may have a choice. We all have choices to make in life; we can either stay at home and moan about our lives and wither away or join the pride of the senior herd here at Moosehaven and have a renewed and vigorous lease on life. Congratulations! To our Sunshine Child John Turton, who graduated from Mooseheart

School on June 4 with the class of 2016. We are so proud of you!

To this year’s winners of the Whitefish Women of the Moose Emily

Leighty Scholarships, Emily Lawrence and Megan Nielsen. Both young

ladies graduated from Whitefish High School on June 4 with the class of 2016.

Emily plans to attend Montana State University (Bozeman) and Megan plans to

attend Flathead Valley Community College in the fall.

General Announcements The Annual Moose Campout and Picnic will be held this year July 8-10 at the Radnor

Campground. All members and their families are invited to join for any or all the festivities!

Camping (and porta-potties) will be available all weekend. Spots are first-come, first-served:

Tents, RVs and campers are all welcome. The picnic and camp games will be Saturday,

July 9, beginning at 1 p.m. Hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks will be provided, and everyone

is asked to bring a potluck side or dessert. Please RSVP to the picnic so we know how

much food to provide. To RSVP or for directions and more information, call Barb Acree at

This year’s Women of the Moose Higher Degrees Chairman is Nancy Bogart. Nancy has appointed co-chairmen Janet

McFadden to the Star Recorder Committee, Kathy Murphy to the Academy of Friendship Committee, and Carolyn Pfrimmer

to the College of Regents Committee. All of these co-workers will work together as a team for the 2016-17 campaign year.

Academy of Friendship will continue to meet through the summer on the first Friday of each month at 11:30 a.m.

Luncheon locations will vary, but members should receive a phone call each month with the details. Details will also be an-

nounced at the WOTM meetings, on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 7 p.m. A donation of $.50 is request-

ed at each Academy meeting, and a drawing will be held at the end of the session for the pot.

College of Regents will not meet over the summer — These luncheons will resume in September and will be held at 11

a.m. on the second Friday of the month at the Pin ‘n’ Cue in Whitefish. Collegians have been asked to each donate $5 to

cover the committee’s expenses this year. Donations can be brought to a meeting and given to Nancy Bogart or Carolyn

June/July Highlights

Wednesday, June 15, 5-7 p.m. — Picnic Dinner (hosted by WOTM)

Celebrate summer with all your picnic favorites! Bring the whole family up

for dinner, horseshoes and yard games to kick off the season.

July 8-10 — Annual Moose Picnic/Campout, Radnor Campground

The picnic event will be Saturday, July 9, at 1 p.m. for those who want to

join the festivities but aren’t planning to camp all weekend. The entire week-

end is free and appropriate for all ages, so bring the whole family out for

some fun in the sun!

July 23-24 — Montana Moose Legion Jamboree, Missoula

Legionnaires from across the state will gather in Missoula for a weekend

of celebration. All members are welcome to participate in the meals, tourna-

ments and events (meetings are Legion only).
