Welcome to St. André’s Parish! No matter who you are, where you’ve come from, or what brings you here, we’re so glad to have you with us. St. André Bessette (1845-1937) spent much of his life serving as the door-keeper of his religious community; like him, we strive to open doors for our neighbors to experi-ence the loving mercy of God. May Jesus fill your heart with his grace and peace!

Save the Date...

10th Annual Holy Harvest Festival

Sunday, September 16th Mass, Food, Music, & Fun for the Whole Family!

18th Sunday in Ordinary Time

In an on-demand society, it's not always easy to imagine life with less. The crowds of Jesus' day depended on the weather and suc-cessful growing seasons for their livelihood. relief. Jesus tries to draw them deeper. "You are looking for me not because you saw signs but because you ate the loaves and were filled." For people who have just witnessed a miracle, the response is strangely marked by ingratitude. "What can you do? Our ancestors ate man-na in the desert." Jesus fed them for one day, but Moses interced-ed with God for 40 years of bread. "Jesus," they seem to say, "can't you just give us more?" How often do we behave similarly in the spiritual life? "If I only I had more patience, then I could be kind to her." "I could be welcoming if I was more outgoing, but that's just not me." "I know I'd be a better parent if I just had more time." Like the crowds, we want Jesus to give us more. We al-ways don't want him to completely shift our paradigm. Perhaps it's not "more patience" we need, but a deeper sense of our own imperfections for a greater sense of empathy. Maybe God is invit-ing you not to entertain an entire group, but to seek out the quiet person on the fringe. And time may limit you from family en-gagement, but could God be asking you to reorder your priorities entirely? After all, it wasn't more loaves that the people needed. Jesus is "the bread of life," who sustains our most essential needs. This week, are you looking for more or are you looking for God Himself?

PROTECTING GOD’S CHILDREN Did you know that all volun-teers and staff who work with children at St. André’s Parish have had background checks and taken safe environment training? This training is also available to anyone who would like to know more about the danger signs of abuse. Protecting our children is a priority in our parish, and it’s everyone’s respon-sibility. To report abuse: If you have a complaint of suspected misconduct involving Catholic clergy, religious, employees, or volunteers, contact Terrianne Yanulavich, diocesan Victims As-sistance Coordinator (518-483-3261 or [email protected]) or Fr. Christopher Carrara, Vicar for Pastoral Personnel (315-393-2920 ext. 1340). Making a report to the Dio-cese of Ogdensburg in no way means that you should not make a report to police or child protective agencies. St. Andre’s Ministries

Sacrament of Baptism Parents who wish to have a child baptized should contact Rev. Joseph Giroux to make arrangements for the date and for a program of preparation. Parents are highly encour-aged to make arrangements at least three months before the child is born, as the Catholic Church encourages Baptism for infants as soon as possible after birth. Adults and older children (seven years or older) interested in Baptism or en-tering into full communion with the Catholic Church should inquire about the program of preparation (R.C.I.A.: the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). Sacrament of Matrimony A Catholic wishing to be married in one of our churches should contact one of the priests at least six months prior to the desired date in order to begin making arrangements. A program of preparation is required. The parish should be contacted before any other plans are made—for example, the wedding reception. Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick For those preparing for surgery, nursing home residents, or the homebound, contact one of the parish priests to make arrangements to be anointed. For those in the hospital (especially in the event of an emergency), ask the hospital staff to contact the priest on call.
