From Fr. Joe… I’m so grateful to all the parishioners who kindly expressed their support after I preached last Sunday on the Proposed Pastoral Plan for St. André’s and the need for greater unity and trust among our members. It is very much appreciated! And to the individual who felt the need to heckle me while I was at the pulpit last Sunday morning by calling out, “Liar! Liar!” from the back of church: I really do think there are far better ways to handle differences than that. If you (or anyone else in the parish) has an issue to take up with me, then let us speak about it face-to-face like mature adults, and not try to shout each other down—especially during Holy Mass. I was not particularly hurt by your accusation (as I said in my preaching, it’s one that’s been made before), but I was deeply saddened and rather embarrassed for our parish. This was not Christian behavior, and such an ugly outburst reflects pretty poorly on us all. (I know that it was only one voice that was raised, but I do think it was emboldened by the more general atmosphere of negativity and suspicion that I was trying to address in my homily. We can’t keep feeding the rumor mill and then not expect some real damage to eventually come out on the other side.) I’m more than willing to take criticism, but it’s much more effective when it’s constructive and expressed in an appropriate time and place. When you are ready to talk, so am I. The article on Reiki inserted in your bulletin this Sunday is one that I’ve been considering for quite some time…but since the question was raised by a parishioner (to whom Reiki was suggested by a local healthcare professional) yet again just last week, now seemed like a rather good time to share my research and reflections with you. I hope you find it helpful. Visit Fr. Joe's blog: http://fromemptyhands.blogspot.com/

Welcome to St. André’s Parish! No matter who you are, where you’ve come from, or what brings you here, we’re so glad to have you with us. St. André Bessette (1845-1937) spent much of his life serving as the door-keeper of his religious community; like him, we strive to open doors for our neighbors to experience the loving mercy of God. May Jesus fill your heart with his grace and peace!

Minutes Available The recently approved minutes of the Pastoral Council have been posted on the parish website and a few printed copies are availa-ble in the churches. Check them out! The next meeting of the Pastoral Council is scheduled for Monday, March 20 at 6:30pm.

12 Reasons I Quit Attending Sporting Events 1. The coach never came to visit me. 2. Every time I went, they asked for money. 3. The people sitting in my row didn’t seem very friendly. 4. The seats were very hard. 5. The referees made a decision I didn’t agree with. 6. I was sitting with hypocrites—they only came to see what oth-ers were wearing! 7. Some games went into overtime and I was late getting home. 8. The band played some songs I had never heard before. 9. The games are scheduled on my only day to sleep in and run errands. 10. My parents took me to too many games when I was growing up. 11. Since I read a book on sports, I feel that I know more than the coaches, anyway. 12. I don’t want to take my children because I want them to choose for themselves what sport they like best. Those sound awfully silly, right? But somehow those very same reasons can seem like acceptable excuses when we’re talking about not going to church…

SCOUT SUNDAY In observance of Scout Sunday, some area Scouts will be gathering for the 11:00am Mass on Sunday, February 5, at Notre Dame Church. The Boys Scouts of America annually celebrates its founding on February 8, 1910, based on the program started by Lord Baden Powell. The Scout Law says that a ―Scout is Reverent,‖ and Scouts of all ages pledge weekly to do their ―Duty to God.‖

Sacrament of Baptism Parents who wish to have a child baptized should contact Rev. Joseph Giroux to make arrangements for the date and for a program of preparation. Parents are highly encour-aged to make arrangements at least three months before the child is born, as the Catholic Church encourages Baptism for infants as soon as possible after birth. Adults and older children (seven years or older) interested in Baptism or en-tering into full communion with the Catholic Church should inquire about the program of preparation (R.C.I.A.: the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). Sacrament of Matrimony A Catholic wishing to be married in one of our churches should contact one of the priests at least six months prior to the desired date in order to begin making arrangements. A program of preparation is required. The parish should be contacted before any other plans are made—for example, the wedding reception. Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick For those preparing for surgery, nursing home residents, or the homebound, contact one of the parish priests to make arrangements to be anointed. For those in the hospital (especially in the event of an emergency), ask the hospital staff to contact the priest on call.
