Welcome to St. André’s Parish! No matter who you are, where you’ve come from, or what brings you here, we’re so glad to have you with us. St. André Bessette (1845-1937) spent much of his life serving as the door-keeper of his religious community; like him, we strive to open doors for our neighbors to experi-ence the loving mercy of God. May Jesus fill your heart with his grace and peace!

GOSPEL CLIP Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of The Universe “The rulers sneered … the soldiers jeered … one of the criminals hanging there reviled Jesus.” Is this the King of the Jews, the King of the Universe? If it is so, perhaps his kingdom is not at all what we would expect! In his letter to the laity, St. John Paul II spoke about how Christians share in the kingly mission of Christ. First, “they exercise their kingship as Christians, above all in the spiritual combat in which they seek to overcome in themselves the kingdom of sin.” In other words, before we give any thought to transforming society, we must first allow God to transform us. Through daily prayer, regular self-examination, and frequent con-fession, we can recognize our faults more readily and choose love instead! Second, St. John Paul II writes that the laity “make[s] a gift of themselves so as to serve, in justice and in charity, Jesus who is himself present in all his brothers and sisters, above all in the very least.” Christ’s kingship, and our own participation in it, is requires us to look beyond the privileged of society. It goes be-yond networking and struggles of power. It goes with Jesus to the Cross! Still, the kingship of Christ ought to effect society. “The lay faith-ful are called to restore to creation all its original value … order-ing creation to the authentic well-being of humanity.” Jesus does this in a radical way through his death and resurrection. We, too, are invited to bring new life to the world around us. This means holding the world and everything in it as sacred. It means advo-cating for civil policies that respect life and paying special care to the vulnerable and marginalized in every stage of life. It means being disciples of Jesus, inviting people into authentic love so that one day we will together “be with [him] in Paradise!”

A Prayer for Healing

Hear the humble prayer of your people, God our Father, as we implore your mercy. Bring healing to all who have suffered physical, emo-tional, or sexual abuse at the hands of your

ministers and restore them to fullness of life. Forgive your Church for the immense evil that has been committed and the great harm that has been done. Grant the grace of true repentance to all who have broken sacred trust, destroyed precious inno-cence, and failed to protect your beloved children entrusted to their pastoral care. Reconcile us to one another and never allow us be parted from you. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

“The Lord heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3)

"There are three kinds of giving: grudge giving says, I have to; duty giving says, I ought to; thanksgiving says, I want to. The first comes from constraint; the second from a sense of obligation; the third from a full heart." Rev. Robert Rodenmayer

Sacrament of Baptism Parents who wish to have a child baptized should contact Rev. Steven Murray to make arrangements for the date and for a program of preparation. Parents are highly encour-aged to make arrangements at least three months before the child is born, as the Catholic Church encourages Baptism for infants as soon as possible after birth. Adults and older children (seven years or older) interested in Baptism or en-tering into full communion with the Catholic Church should inquire about the program of preparation (R.C.I.A.: the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults).

Sacrament of Matrimony A Catholic wishing to be married in one of our churches should contact one of the priests at least six months prior to the desired date in order to begin making arrangements. A program of preparation is required. The parish should be contacted before any other plans are made—for example, the wedding reception.

Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick For those preparing for surgery, nursing home residents, or the homebound, contact one of the parish priests to make arrangements to be anointed. For those in the hospital (especially in the event of an emergency), ask the hospital staff to contact the priest on call.

STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE

The bulletin was sent to print early due to the holiday. The
