FROM FR. JOE…

For a long time now, we’ve been reminded before almost every Sunday Mass that Bishop LaValley has made it a top priority in the Diocese of Ogdensburg to cultivate a culture of voca-tions. That’s not just a matter of recruiting more priests and nuns, as important as that certainly is; it’s about helping every Catholic to realize that he/she has a specific call from God—an essential role to play which no one else can fill. As part of this initiative, Bishop LaValley is inviting us all to a vocations sum-mit called, “Inspire: Called to Love,” on Sunday, September 25, in Lake Placid. A few things for you to know: (1) This day-long event is open to everybody. In fact, Bishop is hoping 7,000 people will attend. Some of the very best Catholic speakers in the U.S. and Canada are coming, and the day will include special programs for youth. You’re not only welcome—you’re highly encouraged to take part. Mark your calendars now! And visit the Inspire website to learn more. (2) Because Bishop wants every-body to be able to come (including his priests), he’s asked us to change our Sunday Mass schedule for September 24/25. More on that later… (3) We’re working on arranging buses from St. An-dré’s for those who want to attend but who don’t want to drive. (4) See the message below about next Sunday’s special second collection for “Inspire." Thanks in advance for your generosity to this important and exciting event! If you see some delivery trucks and construction vehicles around the Notre Dame rectory, rest assured: we're not getting a hot tub! But we did have an issue with some moving water when our rather old washing machine (on the second floor) not only finally died, but also overflowed into the sacristy. (It happened when Fr. Scott and I were away in Boston…which goes to show we can’t leave Fr. Stitt alone even for a couple of days!) Repairs will be ongoing for a little while, and are being covered by our insur-ance. Job Opening Director of Christian Formation

St. André Bessette Parish in Malone, NY, is seeking a faith-filled, energetic, and versatile Catholic to direct the parish’s Christian Formation Program for youth. The Director is responsible for catechetical instruction (grades K-5), sacramental preparation for First Penance/First Holy Communion (grade 2) and Confirmation (grades 6-7), and would collaborate with a team of parish mis-sionaries for small group faith formation (grades 8-12). Current total enrollment in the program is 200 youth. The position in-cludes the recruitment and coordination of volunteer catechists, oversight of curriculum and programming, scheduling, and record keeping, and regularly involves evening and weekend commit-ments. The parish is keenly interested in implementing the Cat-echesis of the Good Shepherd in the next few years. The pre-ferred candidate will be a practicing Catholic in good standing, have experience in the field and a solid Catholic education, pos-sess excellent organizational, communication, and team working skills, and be able to begin on July 1, 2016. Applications (current résumé and cover letter) or inquiries should be sent to [email protected].

Sunday, April 17th 11:00am Mass

Pastoral Council Nominations

May 7 - 8

St. André’s Pastoral Council is seeking nominations for four (4) new adult members. Nominations will be taken up at all Sunday Masses May 7/8. Each registered parishioner will have the opportunity to nominate up to three (3) adults for membership (including himself or herself. A ballot will be determined from the nominations received, and elections will then be held at all Sunday Masses May 14/15. According to the Constitution and By-Laws: "Members of the Pastoral Council must be fully initiat-ed members of the Catholic Church—that is, have received the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist—who are at least sixteen (16) years of age, in good standing, and are both registered and active in the parish. As a body, they should be broadly representative of the local Catholic community. As indi-vidual parishioners, they should be noted for their faith, good morals, and prudent decision-making… The term for each mem-ber at large shall be three (3) years... Terms begin July 1… Members at large...may choose to serve a second term, but may not serve more than two (2) consecutive terms.”

Special Collection for the Vocations Summit

Bishop LaValley is so convinced of the important message which the Vocations Summit will share with the youth and adults of our diocese, that he does not want cost to be an obstacle to anyone attending, especially families. Therefore, he decided there will be no registration fee for the Vocations Summit and no cost for the midday meal. To meet these expenses, Bishop LaValley is com-mitting some of the financial resources of the diocese to this event; he is confident that many parishioners throughout our dio-cese will also help with the cost of the Summit. Bishop asks each of us to help in meeting the expenses of the Vocations Sum-mit, INSPRIRE: Called to Love. Stapled to this bulletin is a spe-cial offertory envelope. Please use it in next week’s second col-lection. The Vocations Summit will make a difference in the fu-ture of our diocese; your generous sacrifice will help make that difference. Bishop LaValley thanks you! Check out the web-site, www.inspirecalledtolove.org

“I was sick, and you visited for me” (Mt 25:36) Did you know that about 50 of our parishioners currently receive Holy Com-munion regularly at home because they’re unable to join us at Mass? (This is in ad-dition to those who are in the hospital, nursing home, or other senior residenc-es.) We have a dedicated core of volunteers who make Commun-ion calls to the homebound…but we are in need of some more. It means so much to our sick and elderly members to be visited by someone from their Church! And it’s quite rewarding, as well. If you’re interested in helping with this important minis-try, please call the parish office. Training will be provided.

Updates: It was wonderful to share the Triduum and Easter

with you all. We enjoyed singing with the choir, lecturing, praying and helping to decorate the churches. Since then, two youth game nights, sanding projects at St. Helen’s, finishing the Doors of Mer-cy study, Confirmation class and Divine Mercy Sunday festivities have kept us spinning. We were glad to take this past week to spend some of the beautiful Easter season with our families, but we’re excited to be back!

Next: Adult Confirmation classes start this week, and we’re

preparing for our next Young Adult and Youth Ministry events. Details will be in the bulletin; stay tuned.

Shoutouts: All the participants from the Doors of Mercy

study, our middle school and high school students for a total blast at our game nights and every ‘Easter bunny’ who made sure we had our fill of jelly beans and chocolate eggs. You’re the best!
