Merdeka/Malaysia Day Celebration This was a whole school event led by STSS on 20

th

September.

It was a coming together of the whole Tenby

community to celebrate Merdeka and Malaysia Day.

The theme “NegaraKu, Sehati, Sejiwa” (My Country,

One Heart, One Soul) was reflected in the multiracial

Tenby Community that celebrated the event together

as one. The long but peaceful journey to

independence was shown in video clips. Then cover

version of the official song “Aku Negaraku” to be sung

in assemblies was screened. It was a product of

creative collaboration between STSS an d TISS

students. STPS made a very engaging presentation on

the event.

The feedback from staff and students was, ‘Great job,

amazing video production…feelings of patriotism,

meaningful message on merdeka’

The UPSR assessment is finally over. The students

have done their best and the teachers have provided

the maximum support in order for them to achieve their

full potential. We would like to thank all who have

contributed to the smooth running of this examination.

The school term for Tahun 6 students is not over and

there are non-core subjects to be covered. The end-

of-year examination for the non- core subjects will be

conducted as scheduled. All Tahun 6 students are

required to take the examination for all non-core

subjects.

In addition this is the time for Tahun 6 students to

explore areas of interest and widen their knowledge

base. It is a time for them to learn new things and not

to be confined to the curriculum. They are encouraged

to carry out researches, experiments and projects that

they are interested in. The school will be organising a

post –UPSR programme which will include educational

trips, transition to Form 1 and interesting science and

mathematics talk.

Active Learning in Tahun 5

Lessons in Bahasa Malaysia using 21st Century

teaching methods in progress. During the lessons

students were organised into groups and work

collaboratively to investigate about historical sites in

Malaysia. They investigated and studied the Lenggong

Valley and Bujang Valley which are UNESCO Heritage

sites since 2012.

The students learn constructively and solve problems

creatively in groups. At the end of the lesson each

group has to present their work to the whole class.

Students not only gained knowledge but soft skills

such as team work and making presentations.

End Of the Year Examinations

The End-of-Year Examination has been scheduled

from 3rd

– 6th October 2016.

This year, prize winners for all subjects for Awards Day

will be determined from the achievement in the Mid-

Year Examination and the End-of-Year Examination.

The weightage will be 50-50 percent of the Mid- Year

and End-of-Year Examination.

Any student who is absent from taking a paper in the

examination can make arrangement to take the paper

after the scheduled time but the marks will not be

considered for getting awards.

Dear Parents,

I am delighted to welcome everyone back to school. I hope you all had a great holiday, the children have shared their adventures and are settling quickly into the new routines of their class. May I take this opportunity to give a big welcome to new pupils and families joining us for the first time. We wish everyone a wonderful term.

As the new Head of school, I look forward to continuing the positives that have made our school so special and I along with the team, will be striving to always improve and develop the teaching and learning experience for each and every child and for you as families.

The new school year brings positive changes, we are developing the outdoor area for Early Years, which alongside the new indoor area will transform their day to day experience. We have a brand new Year 5/6 class in response to the demand for places at our school.

We also have new staff who we welcome into the team. We are delighted to have Ms Jatinder join our school as the Year 3 class teacher and phase leader and Ms Kate, as our new Year 5/6 teacher.

It has been such a pleasure to see smiling faces enjoying their learning, you will have noticed your children talking about how they learn, what makes a good learner and how they can develop as learners. This has been taught through our first IPC unit, Brainwaves. Over the next few weeks we will be sharing exciting entry points, which launch every IPC unit, through our social media platforms.

I am excitied about the new school year and I look forward to sharing our progress and updates with you.

Meet and Greet Sessions

Thank you to everyone who attended our Meet and Greet sessions. We hope you found them useful and if you were unable to attend you can access the presentations via the portal.

CCAs

It has been a fantastic start to this terms CCA programme with a greater range of activities on offer than ever before. The take up has been excellent and the children are clearly enjoying the opportunities.

It is great to be back and what a positive first few

weeks it has been. Students have settled well and are

excited to be immersing themselves back into the

Tenby life. With the improvements to the timetable it

means that not only is it a calmer and more productive

start to our school day but staff and students get a

chance to socialise and share breaks and lunch times

together. Lunch time PE clubs are now up and running

and soon there will be a whole host of activities and

House events to join in.

Tenby continues to be a busy place of opportunity and

excitement. This week our Tenby Sixth Form students

stepped up to the task of being interviewed for the

Student Leadership Council. With our largest ever

cohort in Tenby Sixth Form it bought competition and

the highest standards when it came to the

presentations. Providing opportunity to communicate

effectively, our students were stepping outside their

comfort zones and they were put through their paces

with tough questions to challenge their resilience,

suitability and commitment to the roles. It makes me

very proud to be able to work with such intelligent and

hardworking young adults. Every single one of them

will be a role model to our school community during

their term in office.

It has been great to see those of you who made it to

the Parent Information Evenings this week. Introduced

last year, it is a chance to see and hear what is coming

up in the year ahead for your son or daughter in their

specific year group. We hope it also gave you an

insight into the Cambridge Learner Attributes and

the initiatives high on our agenda in order to continue

on our journey to excellence this year. If you weren’t

able to make it do check your parent portal for the

presentation, and contact us if you have any questions.

Communication continues to be key in order to support

your child so do contact school via your child’s tutor to

raise any matter in the first instance. We have dates in

the calendar for Parent Forums, Parent Evenings and

various student events. Please check the portal and

our social media pages for updates on our student

successes and event information.

On behalf of all the teachers in TISS we look forward

to supporting your child(ren) this academic year.

Thank you for your continued support.

There has been a crime in Tenby Schools Penang and

we need your help to solve it! Investigations will be

ongoing at the cafeteria area from 12pm onward. Drop

by and help them solve the crime!

Don't miss the chance to pre-register for the Tenby

International Career Convention which will be

happening on the 30th September to get your free gift!

Limited gifts available so remember to act quick!

Well done to our secondary students for achieving

bronze and silver medals for the Malaysian Kangaroo

Maths Competition. They competed against over

37,000 students from across the country. An excellent

achievement!

The Tigers are Back.

Tigers have started their hunting spree for this new term. Now with their fangs and claws very much sharpened, they gracefully tamed the Straits Dragons with a 82-24 win. A victorious start with more pouncing actions to come!!

Stay tuned!! Well done Tigers.

Mr Duncan with all the students who successfully stepped outside their comfort zones and 'broadened their horizons'

on their outward bound trip in Lumut. Students overcame personal challenges and made new friendships in a brilliant

trip away during Horizons Week!
