Learning Bahasa Malaysia – the active way. Active learning helps students learn effectively. Coupled with the thematic approach students will learn more naturally and there will be less fragmentation in their learning. This makes learning fun and interesting.

In the lesson students learn vocabulary through the theme of planting of plants.

Presentation of Bahasa Malaysia and English dictionaries to STPS and STSS TSPA-sponsored dictionaries were presented to the Sri Tenby Primary and Secondary Schools, during the assembly on 17th October. Mr. Cheah Sin Hock, the Head of Sri Tenby Schools accepted the dictionaries for the two schools.

We would like to thank TSPA for the sponsorship. The dictionaries would certainly be put to good use to raise standards!

Performance Improvement Workshop for SPM 2016

Students from Form 4 and 5 attended the workshop, held on 9 October at Universiti Sains Malaysia, Nibong Tebal. The workshop

was from 9a.m. to 6p.m. and was organised by ‘Penjana Pelajar Cemerlang’.

The students benefitted from the session as they had the opportunity to learn techniques of answering questions for core subjects in the SPM which included Bahasa Malaysia, English, History and Mathematics.

They also worked on modules which emphasised important topics of all the core subjects.

Our students interacted and exchanged ideas with students from many other schools in the region.

The workshop was conducted by teachers with vast experience in teaching and marking SPM papers.

Many thanks to Mr. Hakimi, Mr. Osman and Ms. Fareezzah who were at the USM campus with the students. Thanks to Mr. Tan Beng Chuan who volunteered to accompany the students to and from the venue on a Sunday!

STSS ANNUAL GRADUATION DINNER 2016

The annual graduation dinner for the fifth formers was held at Four Points Hotel on 14th October. This event was organized by the Form 4 students. The organizing committee, form teachers and all students in Form 4 made it a memorable event for the Fifth Formers.

The function was graced by Mr. Iain Sallis, the Campus Principal, Heads of schools, teachers, parents, Sri Tenby students, guests and most important of all, the stars of the night, the graduating fifth formers.

There was a scrumptious seven-course dinner and wonderful performances to entertain every one. It was a night to remember for the form five students as the performances were put up by students from all forms and what a show of talent that was! There were acoustic numbers, a nostalgic poetry recitation with photographs of memorable moments of fifth formers, and a mesmerizing presentation on the electone. Finally the organizing committee dedicated their presentation to the graduating class of 2016.

Let’s selfie with the beautiful ladies and my teacher.

Wait for me, Andy!

Luckily I can remember our school vision well

A graduation event would not be complete without a prom King and Queen. The winners were Aaron Lau and Amelia Lum and they took to the dance floor to the accompaniment of a sentimental number.

Apart from the performances, there were lucky draws and many went home with very attractive prizes.

It was a meaningful event for the Fifth Formers. We hope that wherever they may be in the future they will always remember the fantastic time they had in Sri Tenby Secondary School and the incredible Graduation Ceremony of 2016!

Again we would like to thank the committee, teachers, parents and everyone who had helped in one way or another, to make the event a huge success.

Tenby International Secondary School (TISS)

It has proved to be a very positive first half term at Tenby Penang. So much has happened and so much has been achieved by our students and staff. An impressive start to the academic year!

Tenby Penang is an exciting place to be. Having seen what is available in only eight weeks demonstrates the opportunities available for students strive for excellence in not only their academic studies but also beyond the classroom in sports, arts, drama and leadership. Our students are fantastic and have a passion for learning and they have ambition. For any teacher that is a dream!

The finale of this half term has got to be the Rock of Ages production at Penang PAC. A particular mention must go to Mr Nick, Ms Carolyn and Ms Hannah for their commitment and hard work with our cast and crew to have put on such an impressive display of theatre this week. Please do look on the Tenby Facebook page to see the photos and video of the show.

It was fantastic to see support from the whole school community and beyond, and to be bursting out of the back of the theatre at Penang PAC was something else!

Have a restful half term holiday, we look forward to seeing everyone back refreshed and revitalised ready for the second half of term.

Thank you for your continued support.

Miss Liz Head of Tenby International Secondary

Rock Of Ages:

An amazing first night for our show Rock of Ages at the Performing Arts Centre in Straits Quay. The students had a brilliant time performing. We want to thank everyone for their help and support – parents, students, teachers, back stage hands, reprographics, admin staff, tickets sellers, costume makers, TSPA, the list goes on!!

Make sure you check the TenbyPenang social media sites for photos and updates!

Sport Fixtures:

Netball It looks like the Tigers are unstoppable!! A strategically well played match as the Tigers pounced for their second double consecutive victory against the fury dragons (Straits International). Tenby team A won a by a staggering 29-1 followed by Team B won 11-4. Bravo Tenby Tigers!! Stay tuned for the upcoming match as our Tigers goes head on with the Mighty Lions of Singapore - 17th of November @ Tenby. U14 Netball Match : Tenby vs POWIIS Thursday , 13th October 2016 @ Tenby POWIIS and Tenby both had two teams each A and B. The first match was Tenby B versus POWIIS B. We played for a total of 20 minutes with a 2 minute break every 5 minutes. Although our defense was strong, with a fantastic effort from Jean in particular, we struggled to bring the ball to the shooters. But fortunately, with Keshika’s super accurate shooting, we managed to convert every opportunity and scored a 5-2 win against POWIIS B. The second match was between Tenby A and POWIIS A. Both offense and defense were very strong with Peng Hsin the Goal Keeper (GK) getting a lot of the re-bound balls. The passes and communication between Gurudevi the Center (C), Ee Lin the Wing Attack (WA) and the shooters Christine & Miho were very efficient and quick, leading to our easy victory with a score of 17-5.

Reported by Miho – U14 Captain

A big salute and thank you to Coach Fumi and Ms.Aini for piloting the team to victory. Thank you to all Tenby teachers\staff who came over to show your support for the team.

Basketball

"Fly like a Butterfly and Sting like a Bee" clearly fits Tenby's U15's Boys Basketball Team as they played an extraordinary game claiming victory against Uplands just minutes ago. Tenby won 79-27, portraying some high level tactics and definitely a very organized game play and teamwork. Tenby definitely roared out loud leaving their opponents trembling for this match.

Swimming 5th October Tenby vs Uplands (secondary)@ Uplands Tenby kick started the season with a splash at Uplands pool. A total of 17 swimmers represented Tenby for the PSAC league swim meet @ Uplands competing in the U12 -13 Boys & Girls category, and U14-15 Boys & Girls category. The highlight was Tenby swim team came in 1st and 2nd placing for the Boys relay. Well done Tenby Swim Team.

Tenby goes ARRRROOOOO!!!!!

On 8th & 9th of October, a few of our 6th Form students participated in the Spartan race held at Nexus International School in Kuala Lumpur. The Spartan race is an outdoor obstacle course aimed at testing endurance, strength and mental tenacity. The obstacles include barbed wire crawl, rope climbing, Wall Jump, Monkey Net, Fire Jump, heavy weight hoist and carry, and many more adrenaline-filled and challenging tasks. There were two races this weekend: the Sprint Race (8km and 22 obstacles) and the Beast race (21km and 30 obstacles).

Results were amazing!

On the Saturday, the team “Burpees for Breakfast” made up of Kenji, Ms Sophie, 2 former Tenby students (Julius and Stefany) and 2 other runners conquered the Sprint race in 2h45, and ranked in the top 30% overall.

On Sunday, Koya (individual competitive Beast) arrived 1st in his category and Gem (Open Beast) 4th of her category. Sean and Kenji conquered the Open Beast race in less than 7h.

Well done to all for rising up to the challenge of a tough race. What an achievement!

PARLEZ-VOUS FRANCAIS? This first half-term has been busy for our Tenby French students!

Year 7 students have learnt how to introduce themselves in a brand new language and can now take part in short question and answer conversations. They have also been doing self-assessment exercises to test and reinforce their vocabulary.

Year 8 students have been creative in their WANTED! Poster, reviewing how to describe other people in details.

Year 9 students have written excellent family portraits and intensively practiced oral presentation through a ‘speed friending” activity when they had the chance to practice with their peers and receive specific feedback on their performance. This in turn led to them creating videos about themselves. The videos will be posted soon on our YouTube channel – watch this space!

18

Year 11 students are busy preparing for their IGCSE exams and, alongside completing past papers or writing fortnightly essays, they’ve been practicing their oral skills through a board game (30-second talks) to encourage them to develop their answers.

Tenby Sixth Form

Never a dull moment in Tenby Sixth Form, when they aren’t running up and over obstacle courses at the weekend to relieve the stress the sixth form students are focused and working hard to develop knowledge and skills in preparation for their next assessment.

Here are a few pictures to show you them working hard!
