Dear Parents & Tenby Community,

This week, there was a focus on E-Safety for parents led by our Primary ICT teacher Mr. Morgan & Year 4T teacher Ms. Natasha who gave a talk to parents in Meru Campus and TEYCI respec-tively about staying safe online. The talk gave guidance for both children as well as adults for using the Internet. Part of Mr. Morgan’s talk was about ensuring students learn to be responsible and courteous when they are online.

Owing to the fact the Internet technology is so widely used in our society today, Mr. Morgan will contribute a weekly article on E-Safety in the Newsletter. Look out for these each week. Addressing the School’s Mission and Core Values that encompass compassion, responsi-bility, integrity and respect within the communityOver the last year, I have shared the continuing issues in the community regarding civic duty and responsibility. We have highlighted assembly themes and ways in which we have been working with the School on developing community harmony and integration. This has included staff, students and parents.

However, following an incident that occurred in School last week, we need to reiterate to parents the School’s expectations regarding communication with the School and the use of social media. Please take note that parents are NOT permitted to approach any child directly. Any concerns must be directed via the class teacher or a member of the academic or leadership team.

The following extracts have been taken from the Parents’ and Students’ Handbook and the Community Code of Conduct. It is vital that all members of the community become familiar with these expectations.

At Tenby, we have tried to take into account the needs and responsibilities that can be expected of young people from the age of two to eighteen as well as adults in the community.

Community Code of Conduct – Page 5Parental Expectations• Be aware of and support the school’s Vision, Mission and Core Values• Any communication should be via contact with the class/form/homeroom teacher in the first instance• Administrators of social media groups should be ambassadors of the school• Messages circulated on social media groups must be factually correct. Naming of children/teachers on these groups are in breach of the Personal Data Protection Act 2010• Parents must monitor their children’s participation in class social media groups

Users of Social Media in the Community & Respect – Page 9We are aware that many parents like to set up class WhatsApp groups. Please ensure that if you are part of a group, this is used to communicate messages and is NOT for gossiping or rumour-mongering about children, parents and teachers. Please note that naming individuals on social media can go against the Personal Data Protection Act 2010.

Parents also like to share their thoughts on other social media platforms. We expect parents to refrain from posting what is deemed to violate Child Protection and Personal Privacy, racist, sexist, vulgar, derogatory, defamatory or slanderous in nature.

We have had occasions where some parents have encroached on the personal space of teachers by asking personal questions about other staff or about themselves. We expect parents of our community to abide by the School’s Vision, Mission and Core Values that foster unity and respect for one another. All queries should be sent to the School directly. Parents who choose to go against the School’s philosophy may invoke Clause 9 of the Parent/Guardian Declaration signed by all parents upon entry into the School.

Parents are expected to monitor their children’s use of social media. Bad language, images and/or cyber bullying may result in exclusion or expulsion.

Student Behaviour – Page 15The reputation of a school is judged by the students’ behaviour; both on and off the School site.

All students are expected to behave in a manner which is responsible and which shows consideration and respect to all other members of the School and also maintains the good name of the School, both on the School campus and within the local community.

There should be an expectation of good behaviour both inside and out of the classroom, but this should not be taken for granted. Every effort should be made to maintain high standards of behaviour on the basis of mutual respect between students and between students and staff. It is of equal importance, however, to ensure that good behaviour is also recognised and praised.

To summarise, we all have a duty to act as role models for the children in our care, as staff and parents. In light of incidents last week, the Leadership Team will be reviewing security procedures during drop off times. We will update you of any changes. Next week will be a four day week as Monday 1st May is Labour Day. School will resume on Tuesday 2nd May. We hope you will have a pleasant long weekend and if you are travelling away, have a safe journey.

Secondary Sports Day

Secondary Sports Day was an amazing day. Everyone who took part showed true sportsmanship and achieved some fantastic times and distances. Well done everyone!

How’s Your Breathing Rate?

Standard 4 students learnt about human respiratory system in Science. They learnt to

recognise, draw and label respiratory systems, as well as how humans breathe. In conjunction

with the Annual Sports Day, the students were exposed to the relationship between physical

activities and the rate of breathing.

Firstly, students were given tasks that required them to carry out physical activities, such as

running, jumping and walking. Then, they were given a stopwatch to monitor their breathing rate

after every activity.

The activities were done in the basketball court. Lee Jun ran before observing how the activity

affected her breathing rate (left). Sydnee was counting her breathing rate after walking while

Hadeef was keeping track of Sydnee counting time (right).

It was Jocelyn’s turn to count her Danya and Sameer worked together to breathing rate. complete the tasks given.

News from Tenby Early Years Centre Ipoh

Coffee Morning – Tuesday 25th April

It was a very informative session on E-Safety for parents during Coffee Morning. E-Safety is becoming an

ever increasing aspect of everyday life, which focuses on safeguarding young children in the digital world.

Miss Natasha shared that although the internet offers a range of educational benefits and fun ways to

develop new skills, parents also need to be aware of the potential dangers children can be exposed to

online. Parents are encouraged to use devices in a communal area like the lounge or dining area so you

can keep an eye on how they’re using the internet and also share their enjoyment.

Toddler Y children are playing together as a team, sharing and helping each other.

Toddler M class children enjoyed exploring the texture of sand. They sieved out the stones and used their fingers to feel the

texture of the fine sand. They had fun pouring water into the dry sand, mixing it and feeling the cold damp sand.

It’s so much fun kicking the ball thus strengthing our gross motor skills. Finlay: Look Melissa! I’m making circle

pancakes using the playdough.

FUNTIME LEARNING

Term 2 has been a fun, interesting and exciting time for us in Year 4N! In our day-by-day learning, we worked as a team to complete many tasks. We learnt to make

decisions, listen to opinions and most importantly, we learnt to work together.

During Literacy week, we created

our own Oceania Myths and

Legends big books. We also

performed our stories with props.

At the Primary Science Fair, we

demonstrated and explained to the

visitors why the rice can dance on the

drum, how sound is made when we blow at

the straw panpipe, how we can make music

with the musical jars.

Out trip to Taman Eco Rimba Kledang Saiong was an adventurous exploration and

an amazing opportunity for us to find out more about the rainforest.

In our learning assembly, we sent out a message about SAVING THE

WORLD – Rainforests, Stop the Deforestation via Choral Speaking, Choir,

Dance and Play.

We would like to thank Mr Josh from

Stranmillis University Belfast,

Northern Ireland for his teaching.

We had lots of fun in his lessons. We

will never forget his accent!

Calling all aspiring footballers! Come join our Under 12 football team for this

tournament! Held for three consecutive years now, the tournament promotes

multiculturalism and a healthy lifestyle amongst the young players.

The school will send a maximum of 18 players. Each player must be born on or after

1st January 2005.

If you would like your child to participate, you may obtain more details and the entry

form at the Reception (Front Office) from Tuesday 2nd May. Deadline is Saturday 5th

May.
