drinks. At 9.00 a.m. in the morning, tables were arranged, food was laid out according to type and not to person and loud Raya songs filled the air. Children waited in anticipation of what would be served. When the children finally came with their plates, they had a great time tasting all kinds of food, cookies, cakes, drinks and their favourite item snacks. They came back for second and even third helpings. The one and a half hours set aside for the celebration just flew away. All teachers (KBSR/SM, IIS) and office staff joined in the celebration. We thank all parents for their very kind support and perhaps in future, parents can join the teachers and students and make it a real family day.

Celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festivals at Tenby Schools Ipoh

On the 24th of September 2010, Tenby Schools celebrated the joyous Mid-Autumn Festival, more popularly known as the Moon Cake Festival or Lantern Festival. After much prepara-tion and anticipation the evening of the celebration came with heavy showers

which Mrs Lai called ‘showers of blessings’. But, nothing could dampen the spirits of the children, teachers and parents who came in droves with umbrellas and moon-cakes. This festival, celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar, is the second most important festival after Chinese New Year. The full moon signifies prosperity, harmony and unity. The programme started with the screening of a short documentary on the festival. Then the famous SMJK Ave Maria Chinese Orchestra played some golden oldies. Our Junior/Primary students recited poetry, danced, mimed and sang. Mr Lee Soo Mee and Mr Phang played the harmonica and evoked memo-ries of the 50s. When the school choir came on stage the audience sang with them. SMJK Poi Lam’s dance troupe added more colour and culture to an evening that everyone was enjoying so very much. The basketball court soon filled up as the heavy rain eased off. By the time the stage performance came to an end at half past nine, the bright moon appeared and everyone was ready for the ‘hot air balloons’ to bring the

celebration to a close. The lanterns rose slowly up towards the dark night sky, carrying the best wishes of the family of Tenby.

Everyone in Tenby thank the Chinese Language Society for organizing this event; the very generous parents who came with such a large variety of moon cakes, pomeloes, cookies and KFC; the school for provid-ing the noodles, groundnuts and Chinese tea; the teach-ers and students for making this evening possible and for nurturing the spirit of Tenby which has touched all our hearts.

Public ExaminationsThe KBSR 6 students sat for their UPSR examination and feel a heavy burden has been lifted. Lessons are going on as usual and they have the End of Year Examination coming on the 25th of October. Items from the Form 1 syllabus will be taught to them so that no time is wasted as they wait for their results. The KBSM 3 students will be taking their PMR Examination (6th October to 12th October) and the SPM examination will begin on the 23rd of November. We take this opportunity to wish all our students all the best in their coming examination.

End of Year ExaminationThe End of Year Examination for SR and SM Tenby will begin on the 25th of October. By the first week of Novem-ber the school will begin the process of streaming the students, preparing the timetable, Course of Study and new classrooms for the academic year 2011. Students will be placed in their new classes and all relevant documents will be given to them so that they may do all the neces-sary reading during the long holidays.
