Students in Standards 3 – 6 have been invited to submit their interest if they would like to be part of the Student Council. Interested students need to consider the following and present their thoughts to their peers through a short speech. 1. Why do they want to be a Student Council representative? 2. What ideas do they have to improve the school community? 3. Why should their peers vote for them? This is a great opportunity for the Standard 3 – 6 pupils to promote school spirit, develop leadership skills and coordinate school-wide activities. Students need to indicate their interest to their class teacher by Friday 20th January. Elections will then be arranged. There will be one representative per class elected.

Thank you and have a nice weekend.

Form 2E

Form 2E English Class – Recapping the PT3-style English Exam Paper Format

WALT:

Define what each section of the PT3-style English Exam Paper is about.

Brainstorm for tips and suggestions on how to do better in each section using prior experience and knowledge.

Provide peer feedback and logically analyse what other teams have done well and what they can improve on in terms of their explanation and tips for each section.

Create posters as future reference for the whole class.

Throughout last week and this week, both the Form 2 classes have worked together in groups with the ultimate goal of creating posters of reference for each of the 8 PT3-style exam paper sections.

Students worked in groups to brainstorm for a statement to define each section and also tips on how to do well in each section based on their personal experience in doing the exam. Then, students would go around the classroom and provide peer feedback to the other teams. Students are then further challenged by analysing the feedback given and discussing as a class as to whether the feedback given should be accepted before making amendments to their content.

Students then designed and created the posters. Below are some samples of the posters that were completed.

News from Tenby Early Years Centre Ipoh

We are now in the 2nd week of the term with all the children have settled well in the school routine. The new

Toddler M (TM) has adapted well into the school environment and started activities that have been planned.

They are happily engaged in activities prepared by the teachers.

Merging of the Year 1 Classes As the number of students in Year 1 class has become smaller, we have merged the two classes to form

one Year 1 class. Miss Janel and Miss Arveen will be leading the class and the children’s learning will not

be compromised. Having a class of 25 children will allow more opportunities for the children to work

collaboratively with their peers and promote stronger friendships among students as they learn, play and

grow together.

Library We have been instilling good reading habits into our children so that they develop the foundation skills to

read, understand and respond to a variety of text. Therefore, we are pleased to inform all parents that our

school library is open for parents and students to borrow books. Parents are

welcomed to the library after school to read a book together with their children.

Parental Portal We would like to remind parents once again on the use of the parent portal. Parents are required to access

the parent portal to get information and updates from the school. Besides that, Year 1 students’ homework

information and spelling list will be uploaded in the parent portal for weekly access. For those who are

unable to access the parent portal, please come to the TEYCI office to register and get your username and

password.

Ways to feel Calm Your child can cope with emotions like anger, anxiety, and frustration by

using these calm-down tricks at home or at school.

● Bear hug. Maybe she’s feeling over whelmed. Have her wrap her arms

around herself and give a squeeze while she slowly counts to five.

● Pep talk. Together, think of a positive message she can repeat to herself

when she feels anxious. Example: “I’ve got this.”

● Deep breath. Anger rising? Ask your youngster to inhale deeply and then

slowly and gently blow the biggest imaginary bubble possible.

● “Noodle bones.” To help her relax, try this funny technique. Get her to

close her eyes and pretend that all her bones are wiggly noodles.♥

Gentle reminder: A very gentle reminder to all parents, kindly have your ID tag on when you are in the school

ground. As for “Transportation Identification Sign”, we would appreciate if you could display

the sign on your car’s windscreen each time when you drop off or pick up your child.

Toddlers started the term with exploring the mode of transport and learning about vehicles via flash cards.

They made traffic signs during their colouring activity and enjoyed colouring the school bus using the

smartboard on “Transport” topic.

The wheels on the bus, go round and round, round and round ... We started our bus journey to school, it's so much fun!!!

Children are sorting out the picture of vehicles to various mode of transport.

My holiday was so awesome! My family and I went to

Penang...We drove through a super long bridge on the way to

Penang...it took about 20 minutes for us to reach the end of the bridge.

After that we found the hotel that we were looking for, we right away

drove to the Penang Hill, there was a train to carry us to the top and we

waited so long for the train because there's was long queue...when

we've reached the top of the hill, we could actually see the whole view

of Penang city. It was exciting...there're also some restaurants and

houses on the hill and I wondered how they carried the materials to

build them...it was already evening when we got back to our hotel and

had dinner at a small restaurant, which was near our hotel. Even

though it was already midnight, I was wide awake. I had the advantage

of watching TV when my parents were fast asleep ...Maybe I was just

too excited... Even the TV show made me laugh all night!!! We

departed right away after a sumptuous breakfast. In fact, it was my first

visit to Penang and it was super-great...

“LOST WORLD OF TAMBUN” ADVENTURE

BY ADRIAN OF 5T

The best part of my holiday was the time I spent at the Lost World of

Tambun. It was on the 28th of December 2016, when three of my

cousins, my little brother and I went to the Lost World of Tambun.

We went on the water slides and the roller coaster ride but the best

part was when I tried the ship. It swayed forwards and backwards

and slowly getting higher. I sat on the left side, so whenever my side

was in the air I felt zero-gravity but when the other side was in the air

I felt like I was going to tumble backwards. So every time it swayed,

Page 18: TENBY SCHOOLS IPOH · thoughts to their peers through a short speech. ... Recapping the PT3-style English Exam Paper Format ... understand and respond to a variety of text

I would scream. My little brother screamed for my mother whenever

his side went higher up. When the ride was over, I told my cousin

“that ride scared the life out of me!”

My family and I went to Bangkok, Thailand

for Christmas holiday. It was so much fun!

We got to ride a boat in the floating market.

There was a lot of shops on water, which

makes the floating market very unique. The

boat then

became so fast

and I was so

scared until the

end where it

felt like a

rollercoaster.

We then went to the safari zoo and I was

able to feed a giraffe and saw chimpanzees

boxing each other. There was even a

cowboy show and a

dolphin show. We

also managed to ride a

TukTuk and it was really thrilling.

We also went

to Sunway

Lagoon in

Selangor.

There were

horror parks,

safari parks,

boat rides, and

you can even meet characters

from Nickelodeon. It was New Year when I

was watching a movie until I heard loud

sounds coming from outside. My dad and I

went to see what was happening, and we

suddenly saw colours blasting in the night

sky! It was amazing! When it ended, we

were on our way back to the house, until

we saw more

fireworks in the

distance! The

holidays were a

whole load of

fun!

MY HOLIDAY IN JAPAN

WATARU ONO OF 5T

I had a great time in Japan. My most interesting thing in Japan was going to a Japanese school.

First, I enjoyed making a dinosaur with a saw. My dinosaur has six wings and a long neck. Secondly, I enjoyed playing dodgeball with my friends. I lost the game but it was fun. Thirdly, I enjoyed the Christmas party. I played bingo with my friends and I got a toy which can become longer like a rubber.

I had a lot of good things at my school. Next year, I am going back to Japan so I want to enjoy the Japanese school again.

MY HOLIDAY IN AUSTRALIA CHOO SHEN LIANG OF 5T

It takes about 5 hours to fly to Perth from Malaysia and we took a boat to the Rottnest island. The Rottnest island has very beautiful beaches, and also home to the quokkas. Perth is a very small city and a beautiful park. I had the opportunity to visit the King Tut exhibition, it was amazing. We also drove down south to visit the vineyards. I saw how grapes are planted. We drove down to the coastal areas, where they have very fresh seafood. The fish and chips was delectable and I enjoyed every bite of it. Last but not least, I visited a theme park and the rides were really daunting and adventurous but fun! I loved the water park better than the theme park because the waterslides were more fun than the rides at the theme park. I had a very enjoyable time in Perth!

I am truly enjoying the non-fiction unit, Museum Of Fun this term because I can share my knowledge about museum with my teacher and classmates. I am indeed very lucky to be given the opportunity to visit the Louvre in Paris in 2015.The Louvre is one of the most famous art galleries with the world’s greatest master pieces. The Louvre is located in Paris and it has a unique entrance which leads to the underground. I was most curious to see the Mona Lisa painting and when we reached the giant room, I was amazed to see hundreds of people. I kept pushing and wiggled through the crowd of people just to get to the front where I could view Mona Lisa distinctly. Victory was surely mine, I was right in front of the painting, closest I could be but was dumbfounded because the painting was presumably small. I was expecting an enormous painting on the wall. However, I am still very fortunate and contented to be able to view the most emblematic portraits in the history, the Mona Lisa painting which was painted by the Italian Renaissance artist, Leornado da Vinci. After that we went to see other paintings and sculptures, like the Sphinx, Venus de Milo, and many more. The Louvre was surely one of my best experience ever! NAME: CHOO SHEN LIANG CLASS: YEAR 5T

WECOME TO OUR TENBY SIXTH FORM

(L-R) Front: Neoh Lean Wern, Brenda Rodrigues, Thong Wei Shuen, Shanya Kaur Dhalliwal

(L-R)Back Row: Matthew Goh, Lai Yi Kang, Kaio da Silva

On Wednesday 11th January 2017, the Sixth Formers welcomed seven new members of their fraternity who began their CIE AS studies at our school on 9th January 2017. The Orientation Session was time for our historic first C.A.S.E session which ran from 13:30hrs to 15:00hrs. A getting-to-know-you session continued at the MPH from 15:00hrs to 17:00hrs.

“We were given a truly heartwarming welcome,” says Brenda Rodrigues who hails from Brazil and plans to study medicine in the future. “I find the seniors truly pleasant, helpful and sporting. I am looking forward to a great time here at Tenby Ipoh. “

Together with Brenda are six other students from various schools in Perak, noting of course that two are from SM Tenby Ipoh – Neoh Lean Wern and Matthew Goh. Lean Wern is the ever-faithful former senior prefect and accomplished debater who proved his oratorical prowess at the Rotary Debates and the Global Perspectives Debates 2017.

“His arrival in the Sixth Form will be a great boost to our school’s debating and oratorical tradition,” commented Mr Louis Rozario Doss, Head of the Sixth Form. “He is also a natural choice as emcee for many school events.”

Another notable in the new cohort (Class Year 12J) is Shaniya Kaur Dhalliwal who hails from AMETHIS – Asia Metropolitan International School,Ipoh. Her most memorable school experience was in community service which has taken her to orphanages in Kampuchea and Kerala, India.

“I am looking forward to participating in Tenby’s esteemed community service work for the Orang Asli and the Home for Senior Citizens, Kampung Simee,” she declared.

SIXTH FORMER ATTENDS NATIONAL YOUTH CAMP IN PENANG

(Far right : Tenby Sixth Former Paul Simon Julianose, seen here with friends from all over Malaysia) From the 24th-27th November 2016, I attended a camp for post-confirmation Catholics. I attended this camp as a participant alongside five other members of a Music Ministry I belong to, the Seeds. The main lesson I learnt from the camp was to find the right balance between being practical and supernatural. Every person consists of three beings: physical, emotional and spiritual. All beings need to be fed in order for us to fulfil and maximize our potential and talents so as to achieve that ultimate and unique purpose for which each of us was created. There was also the common goal that was stressed on throughout the camp, which is to make every decision for the common good of mankind. A good number of youths out in the world today , generally are torn apart due to various reasons which I believe, all arise from the very issue of overfeeding either one of their three beings; physical, emotional or spiritual.

We need to get out there and swim in the ocean of life. The journey goes on as we simultaneously grow, learn and help others. We either progress or regress as there is no such thing as remaining stagnant and as the saying goes 'no man is an island'. All of us need a community to belong to, so as to ensure our respective beings are well fed in the right proportions. There needs to be check and balance as I learnt from this camp and this can be well achieved by belonging to a common-good-driven community or simply, a like-minded group of constructive friends.
