BUILD A CITY!!!

Students from Form 1T had a wonderful time creating their dream city to

accommodate 500 people. Students were allocated RM50,000.00 and worked in

groups of 4 to build the most convenient and safest city for its residents. They had to

then convince the class that theirs was the best city to live in. Students learnt so much

through their research and had so much fun putting their points forward through

debating over their friends’ cities.

This activity was mainly to educate students to think and deliver their opinion or

ideas based on logical thinking which comprised four main skills; Investigating,

Reasoning, Analysing and Reviewing. It also aimed to foster entrepreneurship and

boost students’ confidence. Through this, students had to apply leadership styles and

approaches of problem solving which are elements of International Mindedness.

according to the budget given.

to the class.

on the Mahjong paper. Students respond to the questions

raised by their friends.

Form 1 students experimented and created a variety of layered food and drinks to demonstrate their understanding of

Density in Science. Each student pair research the density of different ingredients in order to create a layered look for their

food or drink item that they wanted to prepare. They worked very hard on their design the poster, prepared ingredients and

carried out food testing prior to the assembly. On the actual day, they presented and explained the idea of making layered

food or beverages to the other students and teachers with the aid of posters and a demonstration set. At the same time, food

samples were prepared for those who were interested to try them out. Some groups showed good entrepreneurship and

communication skills in promoting the products to their target audiences. Feedback from teachers and students were shared

and discussed with all Form 1 students after the assembly. They were given opportunity to reflect on the learning

experience and set the next target to improve their quality of work in the next PBL assembly. Added to that, Form 2 and 3

students who were present commented that they enjoyed the learning atmosphere in the assembly as they found it very

interesting finding out about how density can be applied in making layered foods and beverages. In a nutshell, Form 1’s

PBL assembly was a great success where students learnt to create layered food and drinks through using innovative ideas

and communicating scientific concepts in a creative way.

The Proposal Written by:

Reshma, Izzati, Shahmin, and Celiane (Form 5)

Dear MS Georgia Smith,

I know you must be surprised to receive a letter from someone you’ve never met before, so

allow me to introduce myself.

My name is Georgina Crawley and Edward Crawley was my father. I’m writing to you to

regretfully inform you of his passing. He was sadly diagnosed with bone cancer last year

and unfortunately, he lost the battle.

Before he passed away, he asked me to help him by settling a few of his private affairs

that he did not trust my mother to do. He told me to write to you first and to do it

carefully. He did not explain anything in detail but I came to understand that you two

had been very in love and fate drove you apart. Enclosed is a letter he wrote to you years

ago but never sent.

Regards,

Georgina Crawley.

Certificates and prizes will be given out

during our Assembly.

In conjunction with the upcoming Primary Book Week (23rd to 27th April), there will be a Give a Book, Take

a Book event open for all children from Nursery to Year 6 who wish to participate.

Why a Book Swap?

We would like to encourage our children to read a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books. With a book

swap, children will have the opportunity to pick out a book/genre that they would usually not have chosen to

buy.

How does it work?

To participate, your child will first need to have a new book (fiction or non-fiction) for swapping.

Wrap the book up in newspaper.

Here is an example of how you can label the book with the following information:

For Meru Campus: Please ask your child to drop off

their book at the Primary Office.

For TEYCI: Please ask your child to drop off

their book at the Reception Counter.

The children can begin to send in their books

from Monday 9th April onwards.

In return, they will receive a Book Swap Token.

The Book Swap Token can be used to redeem a

book at a scheduled time during Book Week.

Please note that the deadline for sending in books for Book Swap is Tuesday 24th April.

Suitable for: Children aged 5 to 7

On the 15th of March 2018, Year 2E and 2T spent an educational day

at the Taiping Museum. We went to the museum in conjunction with

our IPC topic ‘Time Detectives’

The Taiping Museum is the oldest

museum in Peninsular Malaysia. It

is located in the town of Taiping.

The Museum has a vast and rich

collection of ethnological,

historical, and archaeological

artefacts. Some of them are

classified as rare collections over

a hundred years old such as

animal species like the

"benturong" and "pulasan"

skeletons. There were scores of

animal skeletons in smoked clay

which are either extinct or

extremely hard to find. Most of

these collections and artefacts are

displayed in the museum’s four

main galleries housed in an

almost 120-year old building. It

was built in 1883 and maintains an

ancient British architectural

concept.

We started our journey from the school at

8.30 a.m. and reached the museum at 9.30

a.m.

The children were all set for their

educational trip to the Taiping, Museum.

The exhibition of the animal

skeleton.

.

The children were engaged in writing

information about the artefacts they see.

The kids found their visit to the museum

exciting.

The children spent about two hours touring the museum before visiting the

souvenir shop where they bought things as memorabilia.

The Cultural Gallery displayed collections and artefacts

from various types of Malaysian handiwork, handicraft and textiles.

The Indigenous People Gallery in this museum was a window displaying the great

handiwork skills of the indigenous tribes of Malaysia. Of note is their astonishing

display of creating clothes from wood pulp, their traditional musical instruments as

well as their great sculptures and crafting arts such as mannequins and masks.

When the children returned from the field trip, they wrote recounts

of the visit and drew pictures about what they saw, experienced, and

learned. Below are some of their drawings and recounts about the

trip.
