BALTIMORE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA @ STRATHMORE; RACHMANINOFF SYMPHONY NO. 3: FRIDAY, JANUARY 8; Departing Collington at 6:30PM. Returning to Collington at approx. 11:10PM. Show starts

at 8:15PM, running time 2hours. Marin Alsop, conductor; Richard Kogan, piano. Described as a “six-and-a-half-foot scowl” by his contemporary Stravinsky, Sergei Rachmaninoff was not what most would call a happy man. Part of that legendary sour outlook came from a life in exile after he and his family left Bolshevik Russia. Still, a connection to his homeland runs through much of his music, and his third symphony is filled with that Russian heritage, love and longing. This concert is not presented by Strathmore. NATIONAL SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA @ KENNEDY CENTER: THURSDAY, JANUARY 21; Departing Collington at 5:15PM. Returning to Collington at approx. 9:40PM. About This Show: A group of close friends shares everything: drinks, secrets and laughs. But when rumors of layoffs shake up the local steel mill, the fragile bonds of their community begin to fray and a horrific crime sends shock waves across two generations. This gripping world premiere by acclaimed Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage (Ruined) explores America’s industrial decline at the turn of the millennium by examining the inhabitants of one Pennsylvania town who still struggle to reclaim what’s lost, find redemption and redefine themselves in a new century. Co-commissioned with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.

Have any ideas for a fun and exciting trip? The Trips Committee meets the 1st Tuesday of every month. Attend the next Trips Committee meeting, Tuesday, February 2 at 4pm in the Board Room.
