admiration for modern Swiss painters such as Ferdinand Hodler and Cuno Amiet brought about a passion for dramatic color found in the work of Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, Expressionist, and School of Paris artists. Through dealers, Staechelin assembled a remarkable selection by Paul Gauguin, Vincent van Gogh, and Camille Pissarro. Im Obersteg’s friendships with artists such as Marc Chagall and Alexej von Jawlensky led to rare in-depth groupings. Both Staechelin and Im Obersteg collected paintings by Paul Cézanne, Hodler, and Pablo Picasso. Selections from their holdings—considered “sister collections”—are exhibited together for the first time in the United States, including Vincent van Gogh’s The Garden of Daubigny (1890), Pablo Picasso’s double-sided canvas Woman at the Theater / The Absinthe Drinker (1901), and Marc Chagall’s three monumental portraits from 1914, Jew in Red, Jew in Black and White, and Jew in Green. The exhibition also features Paul Gauguin’s NAFEA faaipoipo (When Will You Marry?) (1892), a major painting from the artist’s first Tahitian stay.

*Enterasys is the manufacturer of the existing wireless network equipment and controller

November 24, 2015 The wireless is coming. It’s true. Years of attempting to fit our round peg into the square hole of Enterasys* is coming to an end. The existing wireless network provides service to the end user over a network starting in the subterranean phone room of the Community Center. The internet provider for this network is Comcast, one of the very few service providers in this area at this time. The network runs over a fiber optic backbone that is distributed to the various wiring closets throughout the campus, including all the cottage clusters, all floors and wings of the apartment building, and the community center. The fiber runs terminate at a piece of equipment called a switch. Wireless access points are connected from all over the campus to one of these many switches by either Cat5 or Cat6 cable. The brains of the existing wireless network is the controller, a big piece of equipment that sits in the phone room and enables what little management of the network we are able to do. That piece of hardware has an operating system that should be updated periodically, but hasn’t been, in our case, for many, many years. Newer, more nimble and robust networks are cloud-based and don’t require this piece of hardware and are therefore easier to maintain and upgrade. Our new network will be such a network. The fiber optic backbone and the Cat 5 and Cat 6 cable runs are sound, and will be used and possibly expanded when the new equipment is installed. Essentially, we are replacing all of the switches and access points, so it’s not a start-from-scratch installation, but an equipment replacement installation. The new equipment is up to the Kendal standard, has cloud based management software, will be supported and maintained at the same level as the rest of the business network, and will provide a stronger, more stable and flexible network. We will be able to add access points or switches as the needs of the community evolve. The new equipment will support the new mobile devices from Android and Apple, and will allow Collington to move forward with the electronic health record initiative in the health center.

The work on-site is estimated to take about three weeks, and will commence on Tuesday December 1. Next week, we will begin configuring the many switches and preparing for the replacement of the access points. As we develop the schedule for the equipment installation, there will be rolling down time as each area is upgraded. The specific areas affected will be determined by the order in which the equipment is replaced, driven by the switch replacements that the access points connect back to. We will disconnect the old switch, which will “take down” the access points connected to that switch. The new switch will be installed, new fiber or cable terminations installed if needed, tested, and then the access points will be done – the old access point will be removed, the

Collington Wireless Network Upgrade Update 11/24/2015 Page 2 of 2 mounting bracket removed, the new access point mounting bracket and access point itself will be installed, plugged in, and we will move to the next access point on the line. We will do this across the campus until all the switches and access points are upgraded and everyone is connecting over the new equipment. The engineers and consultants believe that connectivity will be restored as each new access point is installed, and the existing network will continue to function until the current equipment is unplugged. This should minimize downtime for everyone, and restrict downtime to only the area being worked on, for example, there is one switch in the admin office that the access points on that wing, from the elevator lobby to the pool, connect to. When that switch is replaced, only the Wi-Fi on that wing will be down, and the connectivity will be restored as the new access points are installed. The new access points will “join” the network and obtain their configuration automatically from the cloud. This is an improvement over the existing equipment, which we have to manually add and to some extent configure. However, we can no longer obtain access points that will work with the existing wireless controller, so that’s a moot point, but serves as an example of why this is necessary. We firmly believe there will be something we haven’t considered, or that some part of the installation will not go as planned. However, we will work through the bumps, with the help of Kendal and the engineers and consultants, and expect that the temporary inconvenience we experience will be worth the long-term improvement in the network. As the new equipment comes on line, and you begin connecting over the “new wireless network,” you will need to join the network – we will provide you with the necessary information, such as which network you should join (there will be at least three new network names showing), and what your credentials are for the new network. That information isn’t available at this time, but will be shared as soon as it is available. As we develop the installation schedule, we will share the expected downtimes with the community, so you can be prepared and know what is happening. Thank you for being on this journey with us!
