Before you go shopping, make a planthat incorporates items you alreadyhave into your decorating project.
The best strategy in budget decorating is toalways know what’s in you’re your currentinventory and to use what you have on handbefore buying anything else. You can check outthe garage, attic, basement for useful materialsor furnishings that can be recycled into a newdecor. You might want to check out yourmom’s basement too. An old dresser can berenewed with some fresh paint colour & newhardware !! Or you can the freshly painteddresser as the new bathroom vanity…just add avessel sink and you have the latest fashion inbathroom fixtures for a fraction of the cost. Before you head out to the malls, shop
in your own home first! Consider moving items from one space to another.Sometimes pulling items from one room to anotherand simply re-organizing, fixing up, or just using anitem in a different way can be enough to jazz up aroom. Paint the toy box a different colour or maybeit can be a picture/trinket/shoe box in your teenagersbedroom, or use different window dressings, orrearrange your furniture & pictures, and there youhave it…a new room.
Need some paint?If you can be flexible about colour, check the mis-matched table at your local hardware or paint
stores. You can find high quality paints for a fraction of the original retail cost when coloursdon't turn out exactly as they should have.Sometimes you can find a slight variation of justthe colour you've already picked that will work justas well with your selected colour scheme and saveyou lots of money. Planning ahead and grabbingthese types of decorating supplies when they're abargain is a great way to maximize your savings.Collecting fabrics for future use is also
another great idea. Even unwanted clothing or tablecloths can be usedto create small window dressings, pillow covers,and accessories. Many people give away scraps offabrics or sell them at yard sales. Be sure to checkclearance and end piece items at sewing and fabric
shops. It's really simple to make a curtain or apillow. Usually only requires sewing simpleseams. If you don’t have a sewing machine,maybe a friend will let you use hers while youchat about your project. Before you head out to spend money,check out books at the library on
home decorating.You will find no shortage of books on the subjectof do-it-yourself home decorating. Glancethrough them and grab ideas to incorporate intoyour own decorating task. Sometimes lookingthrough a Sears catalogue will generate someideas as to the look you’re trying to achieve. Itmakes shopping for the actual item a bit easier ifyou have a picture in mind.
Don't over accessorize. If you have collections, group them together for the best displays. Your trinkets and treasureswill look less like clutter and more like valued collections. Less is more Have fun!
