Comcast Innovation – X1 and Xi5
“When we first rolled out X1, a lot of times people thought about it as a set-top box…It's not that at all,” Marcien Jenckes, Executive Vice President for Customer Service said. “In fact, it's a cloud-based platform that delivers experiences through a set-top box, but also delivers experiences to any Internet-connected device, whether it's in your home or out of your home.”

Comcast Innovation – Smart HomeWhat’s driving all this interest in the smart home is a confluence of technology, affordability and consumer demand. When we first went to market with our Xfinity Home service in 2010, we offered wireless sensors on windows and doors and digital thermostats you could adjust remotely from a computer or with an app on a smartphone. Soon after, we added streaming video cameras you could put in your living room. That was followed by waterproof infrared cameras you could put outside, floor sensors for the basement and laundry room to detect any flooding in your home from your smartphone while you are at the office or on vacation.

“The new Netflix capability relies on a TiVo box that automatically integrates a previously developed Netflix app to deliver what in effect could be perceived as a Netflix channel on the cableco’s channel line-up. The concept puts Netflix on par with say HBO, Showtime, or other premium channels. Customers who search for content through the TiVo interface will see results that include Netflix content, right along with other channels and VOD (if offered).”

• “Comcast announced September 20 that it would enter the wireless universe. Chairman and CEO Brian said a team of 150 people were working on launching a Wi-Fi and MVNO-integrated product by mid-2017.”
• The following day, Charter CEO Tom Rutledge said that his company was eyeing a wireless launch, referring to the 2012 MVNO agreement between Verizon Communications Inc. and Time Warner Cable Inc., which Charter recently acquired in a $78.61 billion deal.”
• “The wireless services, at least initially, would be offered to the companies' existing customers as the contracts with Verizon only allow for wireless reselling as part of a bundle, precluding potential customers outside the Comcast and Charter ecosystems from signing up to wireless only, compelling them to take at least one other product.”
