January 22, 1973 a date that will live in infamy.
The Supreme Court of the United States handed down a
ruling that will change the world forever. For those who
do not know what this date is, this is the date in which
abortions become legal in all 50 states, but do you know
the plaintiff involved (hint: Roe, even though that is not
her real name).
Norma McCorvey grew up with a tough life. She
was raped, abused and assaulted in her young years.
When she was 16 she met a man and fell in love with
him; they also wedded when she was 16. He assaulted
her and emotionally traumatized her. She found solace in
alcohol and drugs, and that became her addictions. She
had two children, Melissa, who was raised by her Mother,
and another who was raised by the father. She was now
21 years old, pregnant with her third child, and scared.
Fearing the life of this child, she opted to have her
aborted; yes, she was having a daughter. This was her
story when the case was filed to legalize abortions, but
Norma didn’t go through with the abortion. She had her
child and gave her up for adoption.
Years later, after this event, she was working for
a Dallas women’s clinic, when an anti-abortion group
was protesting outside. Initially, Norma hurled insults at
them and was very vicious. But then, as she was out
smoking, she took up conversation with Rev. Phillip Ben-
ham, and her life changed. Phillips daughter asked her to
attend church, so she did, and on August 8, 1995 she was
baptized. Now her views have changed and she has
―committed her life to serve the Lord and save babies‖.
As we proceed through another year of battles on
life, I beg of you, I pled with you to keep the life of the
unborn and the pregnant families in your prayers. We
need to keep fighting for life. St. Michael, defend us.
“I think its safe to say that the entire abortion industry is
based on a lie... I am dedicated to spending the rest of my
life undoing the law that bears my name.”
Norma McCorvery, “Roe”
“We must not be surprised when we hear of murders,
killings, of wars, or of hatred…If a mother can kill her
own child, what is left but for us to kill each other?

Holy Rosary Catholic School was established in 1916
Being a student at Holy Rosary is enjoyable be-cause of all the field trips that we go on and because we are learning about God. When there is a sub-ject that you don’t under-stand, the teachers will al-ways help you understand. Our theme this year is faith, academics, and ser-vice. I believe that that is what Holy Rosary is all about. I enjoy being here to learn about God, while getting an education. I think Holy Rosary is a great school! ~ Anna Payne, Grade 6
I love this school because
it’s small and it makes
you feel like you are a
part of one big family.
Another reason that I like
this school is that we are
pushed to do our best with
our school work, and that
makes us better students.
I have gotten really close
with the other students in
the Middle School and
the teachers. I am so
happy that my parents
sent me to this school!
~ Emma Clark, Grade 7
Being a Holy Rosary stu-
dent makes me feel good
and full of knowledge! I
feel as though I’m one
step closer to getting to
college. Being a Holy
Rosary student has helped
me to grow in faith and
closer to God in many
ways. We work hard to
get good grades and are
rewarded for that. That is
why I enjoy Holy Rosary!
~ Ethan McCullough,
Grade 8
Being a student at Holy Ro-sary means a lot. It means you get to learn about religion with-out having to go to classes on Wednesday nights. It feels cool being able to learn about things that kids in the public schools can’t learn during their school day. Our school encourages the theme for faith in many ways. The teachers are really helpful with all our academics and homework, which I love. Our school also does service. In 5th grade, we helped with the soup kitchen service after Mass. I like going to this school! ~ Sam Nelmark, Grade 7
I love being a student at Holy Rosary.
We get more one-on-one time with the
teachers, which means if you have a ques-
tion or anything to ask a teacher, you can.
I enjoy that we are one big happy family
and that we get to go on awesome field
trips to places like Duluth and Minneapo-
lis. When I go to the high school, I will
miss the small classes and the close rela-
tionships that I have with my friends. Our
school is very faith-filled. We also have
very high academic standards, which is
great. We do a lot of service around the
community; it feels great to help others.
That is why I like being a student here at
Holy Rosary! ~Matthew Shouviller, Grade 8
Holy Rosary is a great
school. Our Religion teacher,
Monsignor Tim, is very con-
nected with God. We have
great teachers which I will
miss when I leave this
school. We also do lots of
things to help the community;
we help organizations like
“Kids Against Hunger”, and
we bring canned goods to
Mass on Wednesdays. Ever
since I’ve started here, eve-
ryone has been very nice to
me and I enjoy being with my
classmates and teachers.
These are reasons why I
think Holy Rosary is a great
school!
~ Clara Livermore, Grade
7
“What Being a Holy Rosary Student Means to Me” Written by the Holy Rosary Middle School Students
Being a student at Holy Rosary means getting to be more than just a part of a school – it means getting to be part of a family. Going to Holy Rosary has impacted my life in the way that I know I’m getting a good education while having fun. I also enjoy how everyone at Holy Rosary is very welcoming and kind. I enjoy the small classes and how everyone knows every-one. I’m very proud to be able to say that I go to Holy Rosary and am able to be a part of this school! ~ Stella Foltz, Grade 8
Here at Holy Rosary, we
get a chance to grow in our
faith and do service for oth-
ers. Being a student here
means a lot. I have the op-
portunity to know everyone
in my class and can chal-
lenge myself more by trying
to be a better student. I en-
joy having smaller classes
and the extra one-on-one
time we get with the teach-
ers. It helps me a lot. When
I leave here, I will miss the
small classes and being with
all of my friends.
~ Cassidy Nelson, Grade 6
This school makes me feel like I have a home away from home. I’m glad I can get an education at Holy Rosary because it will give me a head start at the high school, and the Holy Ro-sary Middle School really tries to prepare you for high school. We also get to learn about God and get an edu-cation at the same time. When you have a small class, you get more accom-plished, which is really nice. I’m glad my parents sent me here.
~ Lance Singer, Grade 8
Going to Holy Rosary is really fun.
We go on lots of field trips and spend
a lot of time together with everyone in
the school. We are like a family and
support each other. Our Catholic
School’s week theme is faith, academ-
ics, and service. We really are all of
that. Faith: We all believe in God and
spend most of our day learning about
him. Academics: We get homework
and when we don’t understand some-
thing, we have reliable teachers to go
to. They spend a lot of their time help-
ing us understand. Service: We do a
lot to help others, like collecting
canned goods for the local food shelf.
We also spend part of our day thinking
about what we can do for others. At
Holy Rosary, we try very hard to keep
learning and to keep helping others. It
is really fun to go to Holy Rosary!
~ Mackenzie Braukmann, Grade 6
Being a student at Holy Rosary means a lot
to me. It means that I can have a wonderful
learning experience, while having the oppor-
tunity to go to church and to pray. Holy
Rosary impacts my life a lot. Having home-
work helps me become a better person by
trying to do my best. The best part about
the homework is that there is an after-
school study hall, so that we can get extra
help with our homework. Every though
homework and tests challenge me, they help
me to learn and be ready for high school. I
enjoy the small classes and the teachers.
Since we have smaller classes, we can have
more one-on-one time with the teachers,
unlike other schools. All of the teachers at
Holy Rosary are so kind and helpful. You can
always go to them if you need help or need
to talk. When I leave Holy Rosary, I will
definitely miss my teachers and all of the
other kids. They are like family to me. Holy
Rosary encourages faith, academics, and
service. The teachers love to be able to
help us. We at Holy Rosary also do a lot of
service projects, we always pray together
every morning as a family in the Church, and
we go to Mass every Wednesday. I really
love going to Holy Rosary School and I
NEVER want to leave! ~ Katriana Mehlhaff, Grade 7
I enjoy being a student at Holy
Rosary because of the challeng-
ing subjects we study (Algebra
J), the friendly faces in our hall-
ways, and all the fun we have. I am
very excited for this year’s
Catholic School’s week because
I believe that our school really
matches with this year’s theme and
it is always a very fun time for the
younger students and also us mid-
dle school students. When I
graduate from here, I will miss our
teachers, staff, and the family-like
atmosphere at Holy Rosary
School. Have a great Catholic
School’s Week!
~ Anna Schumacher, Grade 7
Being at Holy Rosary has taught
be a lot. I have learned to be
more independent and have faith in
myself. Every day I become a bet-
ter student by being challenged.
We have one-on-one time with the
teachers and we build great rela-
tionships with our classmates. We
are involved with all the students
in the school; younger students
look up to us and we can be an
example to them. Holy Rosary
incorporates faith in our everyday
activities, like at morning prayer,
before lunch, and after school.
We all really try to put academics
first. Holy Rosary students serve
in so many ways, like reading to the
elderly, collecting food for the
food pantry, and doing fundraisers.
Holy Rosary is a great school to be
at!
~ Brandi Braukmann, Grade 8
Being a student at Holy Rosary I believe has helped me to be-come a better student. It has helped me develop strong friend-ships with my classmates and has taught me life lessons as I continue down the path of life. While there may be a lot of home-work, I know that it is preparing me for when I reach high school and college. I will probably most miss the small class sizes and the one-on-one time with the teach-ers. Our school certainly lives up to the theme of Catholic School‟s week by encouraging a strong faith, having higher standards for academics, and doing service projects throughout the year. Holy Rosary has helped me in many ways and will continue to help me later on in my life. ~ Matthew Averbeck, Grade 8
I love being a student at Holy Ro-sary! I feel like I have grown in my faith because of going here. One of my favorite parts about going to school here are the small classes be-cause I can get more one-on-one time with the teachers. I really enjoy all the fun things that we do at Holy Rosary, like the marathon and the fun field trips we take! When I graduate from Holy Rosary, I will miss the Christmas program we put on every year. I think that our school encourages this year’s theme, faith, academics, and service, because we all learn more about our faith here; academically, the teachers push us to do our best, and we service our community by bringing canned goods to Mass every week. All of these are reasons why I love going to this school! ~ Akyra Hagen, Grade 7
I love Holy Rosary so much.
I have made so many new
friends and the teachers are
great. I was so scared coming
here to the Middle School. I
didn’t think I would fit in, but
as soon as I came here everyone
treated me like family. Going
here was the best choice I ever
made. When I leave Holy
Rosary, I will always remem-
ber the amazing memories. A
piece of my heart will stay at
this school forever.
~ Amber Lyman, Grade 6
Being a student at Holy Rosary means
having a God-centered education and
being taught your lesson in a positive
atmosphere. Going to Holy Rosary has
made me the person I am today. Holy
Rosary’s methods to achieving such high
standards are based on three words:
faith, academics, and service. It takes a
balance of these to succeed. Being an 8th
grader, this is my last year at Holy Ro-
sary. I will miss all the teachers and
staff and especially Religion class with
Monsignor Tim McGee. I will also miss
the positive energy and the family-like
atmosphere. I enjoy the field trips and
the various activities we do as a school.
I am very glad my parents sent me to
this school. ~ Anthony Boehm, Grade 8
Through all these years I have
been going to Holy Rosary School,
I have made a lot of friends, enjoy
learning about God and Jesus,
and like having a good time.
What I like about this school is
that we get to have morning
prayer every day, once a week we
have school Mass, and we get to
have Religion as a subject. What I
enjoy about Holy Rosary is that we
get to go on fun field trips, help
raise money for our school, and we
do a lot of fun activities during
Catholic School’s week. Holy Ro-
sary encourages us to always do
our best on assignments and tests,
to be the best we can be, and to
help others. After I leave, I will
miss the school Masses, morning
prayer, Catholic School’s week, hav-
ing Religion as a subject, and the
teachers. ~ Natalie Steffl, Grade 7

MINISTRY TO THE SICK AND HOMEBOUND: Chapter 25 (v. 31-46) of Matthew‟s gospel gives us a (frightfully) strong incentive to be these kind of minis-ters – to feed the hungry; to give drink to the thirsty; to welcome the stranger; to clothe the naked; to care for
the ill; to visit the prisoner. It is also called for by our Mission Statement in terms of compassionate outreach. We are in process of planning a special one-day training for those that are inter-
ested in this ministry (which we call Emmaus at Holy Rosary). The training will also be available as a “refresher” to those who are already performing Em-maus Ministry. We are presently looking at two dates in March . . . Saturday March 3
rd or Saturday March
31st. If you are interested in attending this training, please call Linda Ditterick (our parish nurse) or Dea-con Red (at the parish office 847-1393) and give us your preference for dates.
Ministree is a partnership between Catholic United Financial , its members, employees, and parishioners. Working together, volunteer service needs within the parish, school and surrounding community are identified. These service opportunities are then recorded on „leaves‟. Parishioners and school families are then encouraged to stop by the “Ministree” lo-cated in the Welcoming Center and select a volunteer leaf. When the service opportunity has been completed, the leaves are returned to Parish Office. Catholic United in returns makes a financial contribution to Holy Rosary Catholic School.

Holy Rosary has invited ―Kids Against Hunger‖ to our Parish on Wednesday, February 8. The mission of this group, a humani-

throughout the world. Kids’s Against Hunger is not affiliated with or restricted to a particular religious group and does not dis-
criminate on any basis when distributing its meals. Our school students and our Faith Formation Middle School students will be
packaging the meals that are sent to those in need. In order to help pay for the materials used, we are asking for a $10 donation
per student.
If you feel you can help out our students by making a financial donation towards this project we would greatly appreciate it. All
