REV SCOTT EUVRARD— PASTOR
St. Anthony Parish
Father Scott’S thoughtS:
.Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Peace be with you.
As municipalities, states, countries, and global organizations continue to battle the threat of COVID-19
(coronavirus), please know the priority of our parishes is to promote the health, safety, and well- being of our
parishioners, members of our staffs, and everyone in the local communities in which our parish communities exist.
During this time of social distancing and suspension of ongoing ministries, we also seek to help you feel connected
to your parish and deepen your faith.
For parents of children who are struggling with how to talk with them about COVID-19, please find attached a resource that will help
you. For all of us wondering how to bring the light of our faith to the COVID-19 pandemic, please find attached a resource that addresses
this.
If you are a Facebook user, that platform is another great way to feel connected to others and to your parish. Make sure to "Like" St.
Mary of the Assumption Parish (www.facebook.com/stmaryhull/) and St Anthony's Parish/Rectory (www.facebook.com/St-Anthonys-
ParishRectory-120800881265005/). During the suspension of public Masses and gatherings, I have been using Facebook Live to stream a
daily Mass or devotional activity (rosary, Divine Mercy Chaplet, Stations of the Cross).
Augustine Institute and Magnificat, two quality Catholic organizations, are offering free resources during this challenging time.
The Augustine Institute is offering all members of the Archdiocese of Boston 40 days of free access to FORMED, its online library of
faith formation and Catholic media resources for adults and children of all ages. There are great choices for family movie night, books for
children and teens, and Bible studies and other educational resources for adults. You might think of FORMED as a Catholic Netflix!

ADORATION OF
THE BLESSED SACRAMENT
MONDAYS, WEDNESDAYS, FRIDAYS
7:00AM to 8:00AM
4TH Sunday of Lent
LIVE LENT HOME PROGRAM –
THIRD WEEK OF ENT
Directions for the Home Program: Have your journal and bible ready, take a deep breath, quiet your mind and hear these words: “Be still and know that I am God.” Then read the Gospel citation, open your heart and mind to hear what God is saying and note your reflections in your journal. End your prayer time with the concluding prayer.
FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT: JESUS HEALS THOSE WHO ARE BLIND Read the Gospel: John 9:1-41 Journal Question: The God of Israel is often characterized as a God of judgment, an evaluation with which many Jewish and Christian scholars take issue. Do you think of God in terms of judgment or in terms of mercy? Has your view changed over time? Why? Concluding Prayer: Jesus, Son of Man, your light shines into human life and illuminates the places where we are blind and resistant. Bathe us in the glow of your healing love and free us from the darkness that impedes us from seeing and following you. Amen.
Monday: Read John 4:43-54 Concluding Prayer: God of healing and compassion, reveal to me signs of your loving presence this day. Give me eyes to see and a heart open to your amazing grace. Increase my faith and help me to put my life once again into your hands. Amen.
Tuesday: Read John 5:1-16 Concluding Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me name my illness or distress and bring my desire for healing and wholeness to you. Open my heart to hear you say “Rise and live!” Amen.
Wednesday: Read John 5:17-30 Concluding Prayer: Loving God, you are the author of life. Thank you for your unconditional love revealed in Jesus and for never forgetting me, even when others do. Pour forth your mercy and compassion upon me, so I may see and treat each person as one of your beautiful children. Amen.
Thursday: Read John 5:31-47 Concluding Prayer: Compassionate God, give me the grace to follow your will and your way. Help me to follow the spirit of your law and to always give people the benefit of the doubt. Give me the courage to wrestle with the facts and always seek the fullness of truth in love. Amen.
Friday: Read John 7:1-2, 10, 25-30 Concluding Prayer: Gracious God, help me to stand firm in my faith convictions. Fill me with your courage and power, so I may share your word by the testimony of my life and the truth of my words. I pray for those who risk their lives each day for the sake of the gospel. Amen.
Saturday: Read John 7:40-53 Concluding Prayer: Lord, free me from prejudice and judgment of others. Give me the courage to stand up and advocate for those who are harshly and rashly judged because of external circum– stances. Amen.
FAMILY CONVERSION
Lent can be a good time to reflect on how we are doing as a
family – how we individually and collectively might grow in our
relationship with God and our relationships with each other. Life
is fast in this day and age; how often do we ask ourselves “where
has the time gone?” It can be startling to realize that the time
together, time when we really talk and interact together as a
family might amount to less than hour each day. It is easy to live
independent lives as we go in different directions for work,
school, afterschool and social activities. So how do we make time
for each other?
Perhaps the best way to start is with a regular family gathering, at
a designated time (breakfast on Saturday morning, dinner on a
specific night, before bedtime on Sunday, etc.) that is put on the
calendar with as much priority as other events! It is not too late to
make it a Lent activity and begin by discussing Lent. What does
it mean to each member? What kinds of commitments has
everyone made and why? How will each one of you be different
when Lent is over? And will members continue their
commitment when Lent is over? And possibly add the request
that these gatherings begin and end with prayer. Prayers of
gratitude, petitions, help. Life is scary in these days especially
now with Covid 19 but with life being forced to slow down,
there’s more time for being together and prayer. Take advantage
of it.
Another Lenten family practice might include a daily act of love.
Can you look around and see some small thing that needs to be
done to make your lives together better? Is there laundry to sort
or dishes to be washed? Is there a floor that needs sweeping or a
room that needs dusting? Just one effort by each member can
make a dramatic difference in sharing the workload in the family.
One of the real graces of this season has to do with forgiveness
and reconciliation, mercy and healing. As a family you may want
to ask “How are we with each other?” Are there resentments,
angers, patterns of indifference that need changing? Do you need
to be more open and honest with each other? By committing to
that weekly gathering the opportunity to communicate better can
open hearts and allow God’s grace to change lives.
Celebrating Lent as a family is an opportunity to strengthen
family life, to see God’s presence in the eyes of one another and
to feel God’s unconditional love in the warm hugs given each day
to one another. Celebrate Lent as family!
