Our Mission:Rooted in Christ, touched by His love and mercy, the Saint John Berchmans community finds unity in its diversity, proclaims by Word, Sacrament, and service, that the Kingdom of God is at hand, and declares that all are welcome in this place.

Dear Friends, It is hard to believe that Christmas is already passed! We prepare for so long then the day itself goes by so quickly.

The Church continues to celebrate the great event of Christ’s birth. Today

is the feast of the Holy Family, New Year’s Day is the feast of Mary, the Mother of God, next Sunday we celebrate the feast of Epiphany then on January 12 we conclude the Christmas season with the feast of the Baptism of Jesus. Let the festivities of Christmas continue!

I am so grateful to everyone who made Christmas so special this year at SJB.

Thanks to Father Paul for presiding at our liturgies. His insightful homilies always challenge us to deepen our faith.

Those who decorated the Church provided a beautiful environment for our liturgies. Thanks to Louie Russo, our Operations Director and his great volunteers.

Our music was uplifting for the various liturgies. Thanks to our wonderful choirs – Spanish and English, our Cantors and accompanists for lifting our voices in praise of the Infant King. Thanks to Michael Rusicki, our Music Minister for coordinating our hymns of praise.

Thanks to the Liturgical Ministers who gladly assisted at the Liturgies. To our wonder Deacons – Willie and George, to the Altar Servers under the direction of Andrew Bui, to the lectors, Eucharistic Ministers and commentators a word of gratitude for providing smooth, thoughtful celebrations. Thanks to Sister Diane Marie, our Director of Evangelization for her guidance of the Liturgical ministers.

Thanks to our children who sang at the Christmas pageant

and who lead us on Christmas Eve at the 3PM Mass. The remind us of the true meaning of Christmas. Thanks to Peggy Rocket, our Principal and to Olga Green, our coordinator of Religious Education for working with the children day in and day out.

Thanks to those gave so generously to the giving tree! The response was overwhelming. I couldn’t count how many families were served by your generosity. Judy Ciukowski, our school Administrative Assistant and Guille McMahon, our parish Secretary were on top of the process from start to finish. Please forgive me if I am missing anyone. There are so many that contributed to the Christmas celebrations at SJB. Thank you.

I was impressed with the number of people that attended the Masses of Christmas. While many were family members from near and far there were also many who only go to Church on Christmas and Easter. Let us remember our Plus One initiative. If each of us could reach out to those who have been away from the Church and invite them for our weekly Masses we could fill our Church each weekend! Let us spread the news that SJB is a place where ALL ARE WELCOME!

Today the Church celebrates the feast of the Holy Family. Let us pray for our family members today whether they are people that are related or people we have chosen. Let us pray for families that are challenged by divisiveness or despair. One suggestion is that each of us seek forgiveness for family members that we have hurt and be gracious in accepting forgiveness for those who have hurt us.

May the New Year bring many blessings to you and your love ones!

In His Spirit,

Father Patrick M. Marshall

EVANGELIZATION 101 WITH

SISTER DIANE MARIE The feast of the Holy Family which the Church celebrates today reveals to us the place and people that provide the stimulus for the development of evangelizers, missionary disciples. The place and people are home and family. The family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph dwelt together in their home town of Nazareth. One can just imagine Mary and Joseph experiencing the joy and sometimes anxiety of watching Jesus grow from childhood to adulthood. Joseph, as the foster father of Jesus and Mary his mother, taught Jesus to be a strong, faithful Jewish man open to the will of the Heavenly Father. While they lived in turbulent political times their home was undoubtedly a place where they found acceptance, peace and love. This was the place where dreams were shared and the God of all creation was worshipped and glorified! The parents of this home were able to model for their son the way to be a man of strong, gentle spirit, shaped by family values and traditions, ready to share and live out the Good News of his life, death and resurrection.

Home and family are still the stimulus for the development of evangelizers. The home is where evangelization begins. The interior relationship that we have with the Lord is outwardly expressed first of all with our families. Questions to take to God in prayer might be: how do we create a family environment where acceptance, peace and love allow for the sharing of dreams as well as insecurities and doubts?; what opportunities do we use to make prayer a part of our family routine thereby initiating in the lives of our loved ones a relationship with God?; how do parents model for children the living out of family traditions and values in a way that will spur them on to lives committed to Gospel living? It is never too late to focus on the ongoing creation of a Catholic home and family no matter what type of family we are a part of. This is Evangelization at its best. May the new year bring with it new opportunities for creative, holy and wholesome resolutions that nurture our families to become evangelizers, missionary disciples ready to share the Good News by the way we live our lives. Happy New Year!

Epiphany: January 4 and 5 we will celebrate the Epiphany, also known as “Three Kings Day.” Please be sure to take an envelope with the Epiphany blessing when you leave the Church. It is a tradition in the Catholic Church to bless chalk at the Masses for the Epiphany and then use the blessed chalk as a part of a blessing in one’s home in the New Year. Each envelope contains a small piece of chalk and instructions as to how to bless the doorways your home.

Perdónenme si me faltó alguien.

Cenade Espagueti¡RESERVE LA FECHA! ¡No pierda
