Positive Discipline

for Learning This term, Tenby International School will be trialing a new

policy that aims to support existing codes of conduct and ex-

pectations through creating clarity and consistency for staff

and students. A circular (IIS.1011.2013) was given out to TIS

Secondary students on 11 Oct 2013 to explain to parents/

guardians about this initiative. If you would like to find out

more about the system, please

visit the ‘downloads’ page on

our website to get a copy of

the circular.

Fees collection, Deposit Top-Up and Return of Deposit In common with nearly all international schools and many pri-

vate schools, Tenby Schools Ipoh collect a deposit equivalent

to the fee for one term on the admission of a new student.

With effect from September 2013, this deposit is ‘topped up’

each year to the current level of the school fee for one term.

When the student leaves the school, the deposit is returned

provided that there are no outstanding debts and that one full

term’s notice is given of the student leaving the school. Notice

should be given on or before the first day of the school term.

Procedure of

Payment of

Fees

Payment by cash/ cheque/

credit card must be made 2

weeks before the term be-

gins. Payment can be made

online to the school’s bank

account. Please refer to in-

voice for details.

The 1st Reminder will be

issued 2 weeks after the

school has started.

The Final Reminder will be

issued 2 weeks after the 1st

Reminder. This Final Re-

minder will inform the

parent/guardian of the ex-

clusion of the child from

class if the fees due are not

paid by the date stated in

the Reminder letter.

Top-Up deposit is included

alongside the term fee in the

invoice for the first term of

each academic year.

The deposit should not be

used in lieu of the fees for

the final term at the school.

Year 11 Schools Fees

Collection of school fees for graduating class Year 11 will be ad-

justed to accommodate the payment of examination fees.

The school fees for the year will be divided into 2 payments.

approximate cost depends on the currency exchange

rate for the IGCSE exam (about GBP41 per subject).

would like to find out more about the examination fees and other

matters regarding the fees collection.

On Saturday, 26 October 2013

roles were switched and parents

were given the chance to experi-

ence school life at Tenby Schools

Ipoh with lessons conducted by

trained Tenby students.

It was a well-received event and

parents were very positive about

the day. They have commended

that the students were very organ-

ised and confident and felt that

they had gained a good insight into

our teaching and learning.

Iron sharpens iron; one scholar sharpens another. It was in this spirit of scholarly debate that more than sixty

students participated in the second series of Global Perspectives Debates organized by the Sixth Formers of

Tenby Schools Ipoh on 18th October 2013.

The debates drew strong participation from Tenby International School, Sekolah Tenby Ipoh as well as from SMK

St Michael and SMK Anderson, Ipoh. Among the topics debated were “That no school should have more than

500 students “ and “That there should only be one House in Parliament.”

Sekolah Tenby Ipoh emerged champions with a powerful oratorical impact by Victor Ho Jun Jie (KBSM 3) and

Dhiphan Raj Sundram (KBSM 3). The Best Speaker award was clinched by Lim Hui Ben ( Sixth Form –Cohort

8).

The Global Perspectives debates are organized bi-annually by Tenby Schools Ipoh to promote a culture of parlia-

mentary debating among students in Ipoh’s schools. The debates are also designed to promote a spirit of global

citizenship amongst young people.

TIS Sixth Form

The Annual Leadership Camp 2013

The Annual Leadership Camp for Sixth Formers was held from 3rd to 5th of September 2013 at the Barre IJ Centre, Tanah

Rata, in the Cameron Highlands. It was attended by nineteen Sixth Formers in Cohort 8, our June 2013 intake.

The focus of our camp was on the school’s vision of “A United World at Peace-Through Education.” The participants had

great fun generating activities and songs featuring peace. They also reflected on “What Unites and What Divides”.

Prior to arrival at their campsite, they

made the customary trek uphill to

Kampung Pergom, our adopted

Orang Asli Village. They delivered the

charity donations (packaged food,

stationery and school materials) given

by our entire school community to aid

the pre-school centre in the village.

On Day 2, in the midst of more seri-

ous camp discussions, our party ex-

plored the Sungai Pallas Tea Estate

where among other things they

learned that the average tea plant is

70 years old!

Day 3 was perhaps

the climactic phase of

the camp when our

party entered the

Cameron rainforest

for a three-hour hike

under the guidance of

Mr Rajan, our accom-

plished jungle scout

who regaled us with

his expert knowledge

of the flora of the

Cameron forests.
