ST. SCHOLASTICA RETREAT CENTER’S 2012 PROGRAMSilent Directed Retreat

3-Day: January 3-6 5-Day: January 3-8 8-Day: January 3-11This retreat is an individual prayer experience, based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. Participation in this kind of retreat leads to a profound discovery of how deeply you are loved by God. Your prayer is enriched and guided by a spiritual guide with whom you will meet each day. For the first time you have a choice on the length of your retreat: three, five, or eight days. All three retreats begin on Thursday evening, January 3. The three-day retreat ends Sunday, January 6, after lunch; the five-day ends Tuesday, January 8 after lunch; and the eight-day ends Friday, January 11 after lunch. Cost is $235.00 for the 3-day, $450.00 for the 5-day, and $600.00 for the 8-day. A $50.00 non-refundable deposit is needed at the time of registration. Lodging and meals appropriate to the length of your stay are included in the price. These retreats are directed by Sr. Rachel Dietz, OSB and other qualified Spiritual Directors.

March 1-2A Realized Mystery: Living Our Baptismal Priesthood, a Lenten Retreat

Presented by Jared H. Bryson

The major question during Lent is, “What in us will be made new?” Sometimes it seems like nothing is new, but until we look deeper at the current reality we discover our newness is found through seeing our lived reality through a new lens. This two-day Lenten retreat will focus on renewing our Baptismal call and the Priesthood of the Faithful as new ways to revitalize our own identities. The approach of this retreat will focus on Sacramental Imagination as well as the role of theological reflection for the everydayness of our lives and the renewal of the community. Cost is $125.00 for overnight retreatants and $80.00 for commuters with a $50.00 non-refundable deposit due at time of registration. This includes overnight lodging and two meals. Commuter rate includes meals.

March 14-17The Power of Centering Prayer: Transforming the False Self

Presented by Nick Cole

This retreat, which will be conducted mostly in silence, is designed to be helpful wherever one is on the spiritual journey. We will review the method of the prayer, experience a taste of the psychology behind the prayer, and expose ourselves to the Divine Therapy by having opportunities to practice it. Our retreat presenter will be Nick Cole. In preparation for this retreat read Open Mind, Open Heart by Thomas Keating and/or Centering Prayer and Inner Awakening by Cynthia Borgeault. Practice the prayer before the retreat. Father Thomas is fond of saying, “The only way to do the prayer wrong is not to do it.” Cost of this retreat is $225.00 with a non-refundable $50.00 deposit, which includes three nights’ lodging and eight meals.

March 28-31Triduum

Come join the monastic community of St. Scholastica to celebrate the Triduum during Holy Week. You will enter into worship with the Sisters to follow in the footsteps of Jesus to Calvary and share in the joy of His resurrection. We will begin this commemoration of the Paschal Mystery with orientation at 2 p.m. on Holy Thursday and conclude with the Feast of the Resur-rection on Easter Sunday. Sister Rachel Dietz will give a talk on Saturday morning. Cost is $165.00 with a $50.00 non-refundable deposit due at time of registration. Price includes 3 nights’ lodging and nine meals.

April 5-7Sacred Pauses: Simple Rituals to Live Mindfully Through the Hours

Presented by Macrina Wiederkehr, OSB and Velma Frye

Presenters Macrina Wiederkehr, OSB and Velma Frye invite you to this feast of poetry, song, prayer, ritual, faith-sharing silence, and soul listening, all grounded in your deep yearning for union with God and all of Creation. The themes explored, the spirit of the hours, are from Sister Macrina’s book, Seven Sacred Pauses. The poetry in this book became the lyrics for Velma’s songs. This retreat is $225.00, with a non-refundable $50.00 deposit due at time of registration. The price includes two nights’ lodging and five meals.

May 3-5Songs of the Lord: Psalms

Presented by Hilary Decker, OSB

Retreatants will prayerfully peruse the types of psalms: hymns, lamentations, wisdom, thanksgiving and royal psalms. They will experience the psalms in a variety of creative media—dra-matization and art. There will be ample time for reflection and silent prayer with the Psalms. Cost of this retreat is $175.00 ($120.00 for commuters) with a non-refundable $50.00 deposit due at the time of registration. This includes two nights’ lodging and five meals. Commuter rate includes meals.

June 9-15The Benedictine Way: a 5 Day Guided Retreat

Presented by Macrina Wiederkehr, OSB

The focus of this retreat will be Benedictine Spirituality as a pathway for spiritual growth. Sister Macrina will use themes from monastic spirituality to help you discern how the Benedictine Way can be for everyone. The “monk” is a universal archetype for everything in us that leans towards the Divine—all that searches for the holy and longs for purposeful living. You don’t have to live in a monastery to cultivate a monastic practice. You can create a sacred rule of life right in the midst of everyday living. We all have within us that place of communion where, if we slow down and learn to listen, we will hear God breathing in us. Learn to nurture the monk within. Come spend time with Sister Macrina, who invites you to nurture your inner monk and ground yourself in the Benedictine Way. Cost of this retreat is $450.00 with a non-refundable $50.00 deposit due at time of registration. This includes 6 nights’ lodging and 16 meals. The retreat will conclude mid-morning on the 15th.

September 6-8The Journey Matters: Opening Ourselves to an Emmaus Encounter

Presented by Cackie Upchurch

Sometimes we’re so focused on the destination that we miss the very human moments of the journey itself, those moments that open us up to a deepening encounter with the God who is our companion. We’ll use the Emmaus story (Luke 24:13-35) as our framework for the weekend. Through Scripture reflection and teaching, personal quiet time, and in sharing with oth-ers, we will be reminded of the almost-too-good-to-be-true grace that God gives us for the journey. Cost of this retreat is $175.00 ($120.00 for commuters) with a non-refundable $50.00 deposit due at the time of registration. This includes two nights’ lodging and five meals. Commuter rate includes meals.

November 15-17The Heart of the Hunter: a Retreat for Hunters of God

Presented by Macrina Wiederkehr, OSB

We are all hunters tracking the mystery in the deep woods of our lives. The crucial hunt is not the hunt for BIG GAME but the hunt for meaning, for fullness of life, for God. Explore and discover the power of the heart and delve into the truth that we are both the hunters and the hunted for the Hound of Heaven is tracking us with the most powerful heart of all. Together we will explore: The Aboriginal Heart, The Seeking Heart, The Wounded Heart, The Compassionate Heart, and the Attentive Heart. Cost of this retreat is $175.00 ($120.00 for commuters) with a non-refundable $50.00 deposit at the time of registration. This includes two nights’ lodging and five meals. Commuter rate includes meals.

December 5An Advent Day of Recollection: Sheltering the Seed of Hope

Presented by Macrina Wiederkehr, OSBThe beautiful season of Advent can, at times, become the lost season of the liturgical year. The excitement of holiday preparations, the anticipation of gift-giving and reuniting with family members can be both a joy and a distraction in this season of light and life. So let us pause in the midst of our Christmas preparations and take a long, deep look at the spirituality of the season. We will gather in a small retreat community to shelter the seed of hope in our own hearts and in the larger global community. We will wait in a womb of our own lives for the seed of Christ to hollow out our darkness with life and light. Cost for this Day of Recollection is $50.00 with a non-refundable $20.00 deposit due at registration. Lunch will be served.
